Harvest Peaks as Autumn Begins

The grape harvest is reaching its peak in California and many vintners and growers are now well passed the halfway mark for bringing in the 2014 wine grape crop. Mother Nature also brought us a taste of autumn weather in the form of a little light rain and cooler temperatures in northern California, which will slow the process ever so slightly before picking begins again in earnest in the final days of this year’s harvest.

Vintners and growers continue to comment on the early, abundant and high-quality nature of this year’s crop. Plans are underway for Thanksgiving celebrations that most in the wine industry don’t get to enjoy because it’s normally such a busy time. It looks like we may have the opportunity to give thanks for some time off around the holidays this year due to the early harvest.

Rhone Rangers Grand Tasting
The Rhone Rangers annual event in San Francisco takes place every year in March and culminates with a Grand Tasting at the Mason Center. Last year over 2,000 people tasted some 500 wines from more than 100 Rhone Rangers wineries.

Taste The Stars
The French have been arguing for decades to persuade Americans to stop calling our sparkling wine "Champagne." They postulate, rightly, that Champagne comes from that sacred region in northern France where the bubbly was first created, and should not be confused with the various sparkling wines made from Temecula to Topeka.
