Amador County is in the Sierra Foothills, with varying climates depending on elevation, valley alignments, and the direction the slope faces. Daytime temperatures in the summer range from the 80s to over 100 degrees, while wintertime temperatures average between 40 and 70 degrees during the day. During the summer cood winds cascade down the mountains and cool the region, dropping temperatures by 30 degrees or more. Rainfall averages between 28 inches per year in Plymouth and 36 inches in nearby Fiddletown.
