Adelaida Cellars Description
Heading west through the bucolic countryside of Adelaida is a pleasure in itself. Once you discover the wineries here you will be even more pleased. Just off Adelaida Road you follow the rock lined wall below the hillside vineyard to Adelaida Cellars and tasting room. Set back against the hillside the winery sits on the site of a 500 acre walnut grove.
For 25 years they have been hiding out producing superb custom made wines from difficult to cultivate, hand tended vineyards. Adelaida's wild and rugged mountainside vineyards are loaded with limestone and calcareous shale. These difficult soils add stress on the vines, which lowers the yields but produces more intensely flavored fruit. On the estate they grow Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Zinfandel. Other fruit is sourced from “west side” growers and includes Mourvedre, Grenache, Counoise, and old vine Zinfandel from a vineyard planted in 1920.
As you enter the tan colored winery building, you pass under a grape arbor heading through hand carved oak doors that lead you to a very stylish and attractive tasting room. Its black granite tasting bar and modern pendant lighting add to the updated look. The tile floor has an oriental rug and there are windows looking into the wine processing operation.
There are informal tours available that can be arranged with a call ahead of time. Large format bottles are for sale along with wine accessory items. A picnic area is adjacent to the winery.

Rude staff in the Tastting RoomEagle12, Chicago Normally i give pretty easy reviews, the older fair haired lady in the tasting room on the last afternoon of harvest fest was nasty. If friendly consists of announcing there is no food, chocolate or sampling of any kind and it will cost $10.00 to taste reds only, stated with a tremendous attitude then this place is friendly. My wife's commented on how rude she was. I was walking out when she said that the $10 tasting fee was refundable with purchase. With all the nice things I had heard about their wines I figured we would give it a whirl. The only reason there is a 2 rating under staff is the young lady pouring the wines under the tent saved the day. She was friendly. The decanted library Syrah was the best offering, but I bought a bottle of ice wine for a friend. Would not recommend and would not return. Out of all of the people we met this trip, this person was the only rude person we met.

Not worth the stopBrenJ, Long Beach After having one of their wines I really wanted to stop here. Boy was I disappointed. The staff was not very talkative, and getting them to answer questions about their wines was like pulling teeth. The wines were pretty generic, nothing I would take home. Especially for the price! The winery was hosting a Pinot Noir seminar when we stopped by and the best part of our visit was discovering Stephen's Cellars. His wines were wonderful. I guess I expect more of a winery with so much potential and such beautiful grounds.

Bad ExperianceJean, Santa Monica, CA My husband and I have been visiting Adelaida Cellars for the past 4 years. This year we brought 2 more couples with us and we were very disappointed with our visit. We visited on December 1st at 4:30. The first thing we were told by the old man that waited on us was that they would be closing in 30 minutes and we would have to leave even if we were having fun. Through out our tasting he was rude, made off color jokes, and was very snobby answering our questions. Out of the 6 of us we did 3 tastings and bought 7 bottles of wine. He charged us for tastings and snapped at us as we were charging them on separate credit cards. When I told him I had never been charged for tasting here before he stuttered. Even his co-worker notices how rude he was and made a comment. We visit Paso Robles twice a year and we have never been so disrespected at any other cellar. Next time we may as well skip this one. Do your self a favor, there are many other Cellars with great wines, drive through to the next one.
