Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards Description
Pioneer winegrowers in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA since 1970, Thekla and Richard Sanford are pleased to present wines from their winery, Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards. With over 40 years of winegrowing experience in this region, Thekla and Richard continue to honor the unmistakable relationship between the healthiness of the soil, the energy of the vines, and ultimately the soul of the wine.
Tasting room manager Chris Burroughs, of Sideways fame, invites you to join him at the rustic, creekside space to enjoy a taste of their award winning wines. The winery is five miles west of the little berg of Buellton in the picturesque Sta. Rita Hills appellation.
The estate vineyards are certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers. Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards were the first in Santa Barbara County to have been certified by the CCOF. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes predominate and form the core of Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards. Good Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris round out the production.
At Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards all of the packaging and promotional materials used are selected with careful consideration of their environmental impact. All bottles, red
and white wine alike, are of uniform size and shape to eliminate production waste. Traditional corks
have been replaced with twist off closures to eliminate the mustiness imparted by bad corks.
Business stationery and promotional materials are natural and recyclable. They use kraft, natural corrugated (rather than bleached and multi colored) material in their shipping containers and use only chemical-free cleaning products. Electronic commerce and email communication are promoted as earth-friendly alternatives to excessive reliance on paper processing.

Back 4 More!murphede, Fernley Came back for our 2nd visit today, brought some friends and everyone loved it. Good variety of award winning wine, beautiful area to walk around and explore while you sip your wine. Great atmosphere overall! Love this winery!

Rustic Charmmurphede, Fernley Alma Rosa is an adorable little place. When we first drove up we were a little concerned by what we saw, but when we walked in to do the tasting our minds were immediately changed by the rustic charm of the winery. Flowers and hidden spots of serenity are everywhere if you take the time to walk around the property while you are tasting the wines. Our friends were even able to walk their daughter down to see the goats in their pen (follow the path through the parking area). Our favorites were Pinot Gris and the second Pinot Noir from the "Varietal" tasting flight. The only negative we really had with Alma is the tasting room. The room we paid in was suppose to be the tasting room, however it is not inviting, looks very messy with all of the books scattered everywhere and is very small. Since it was a busy holiday weekend they had the varietal flight tasting in the business office which was not any better. Despite the tasting room(s), the winery is definitely worth checking out! The wine and over all atmosphere were fantastic! The woman running it was very generous and provided a military discount to our group even though they supposedly don't currently have one so thank you Alma!

Pinot Noir Brilliancewadelouis2, Rincon When I went to visit this winery I thought it was just going to be another plain old winery I had never heard of it before so I had no idea what to expect. In fact this winery has produced many award winning wines and they taste like them too. My favorite wine I tasted was the Pinot Noir it is absolutely brilliant.
