Alpha Omega Description

Off the highway in the heart of the Valley, this new winery operation combines experience in grape-growing and winemaking with the ambition to be one of the great wine estates of the world. The facility is currently undergoing a major renovation, and will be a first-class wine-tasting experience once it is completed.

Alpha Omega has been fortunate to acquire highly sought after vineyards in the unique appellations of Napa Valley: Spring Mountain, Rutherford, Oakville, Yountville, Atlas Peak, and Carneros, including the historically well known To Kalon, Stagecoach and Hudson vineyards.

Aside from the vineyards on the Alpha Omega Winery property, the winemakers have a strong belief in sourcing grapes from terroirs representing different appellations in Napa Valley in order to bring a completely different aromatic profile to their wine as well as complexity.

Alpha Omega’s first wines were produced in 2006 and include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Proprietary Red.

Alpha Omega is worth a stop

I visited this winery in 2007 and 2008. I was very impressed by the quality of the wine and the friendly staff. In February 2008, there is a lot of construction going on but don't let that dissuade you. The fact that they're right off the main road may be a turn off for some but they are not a "wine mill" / tourist trap -- The wine is spectacular!

One of the Best New Wineries

Just off St. Helena Highway, is the tasting room of the former Esquisse, which you may have visited in the past. The tasting room was purchased by a new winery Alpha Omega. But there's nothing new about it. The owners have a long history of vineyard management and winemaking. They brought in Jean Hoefliger, winemaker originally from Switzerland, but trained in France with top French wine consultant, Michel Rolland. The wines show the heavy French influence in their style and finesse. Both whites and reds are outstanding. I can't pick a favorite wine here, because I ended up buying a few of each one to bring home, but the Proprietary Red was fantastic. The first time we visited Alpha Omega, we tasted in the old tasting room. Since then, they have renovated, and built a much larger, architecturally beautiful tasting room. The high ceilings and glass walls make for a sophisticated ambiance. The bar is now longer to accommodate more people. The outside deck and pond area is still being reconstructed as I write, but should become a relaxing place to sip wine. Alpha Omega also offers classes in various things such as blending juices or harvesting grapes. This is one wine club I really recommend joining. We tried their first vintage release, and with their plans for the future, they are only going to get better.

We were treated so well here that we can't say enough about the place. It is a new venture in a old spot along the highway and has great ambitious plans. The wines they are making now are really good and I am looking forward to when their reds will have a little more age on them.
