Artesa Vineyards & Winery Description
Set at the top of a dramatic hill in the southern Napa Valley is the stunningly beautiful and modern Artesa Winery and gallery. The Raventós family, one of the largest and oldest wine producers in Spain, came to this area for an ambitious foray into California winemaking. Their winery is like no other, with dramatic sculptures, fountains, works of art, architecture, and still and sparkling wines.
Entering the Artesa property, climb the sweeping staircase bordered by cascading waterfalls and beautiful fountains, reflecting pools and sculpture. From the top are panoramic vistas of Napa Valley, Carneros and the San Francisco Bay. A broad walkway leads past manicured lawns to the winery entrance. The building has three floors, with the spacious top floor devoted to visitors and the lower floors dedicated to making wine.
Inside is a spectacular modern interior full of rich woods, expanses of glass, a courtyard, gift shop and one of the best views in Carneros. The building is often compared to an art museum; indeed, its walls and vast spaces are filled with modern works by the celebrated artist Gordon Huether.
Recently, Artesa purchased over 400 acres in the Alexander Valley to plant Bordeaux varieties, as well as a 300-acre Sonoma Coast property for Burgundian grapes. Artesa is also exploring new winemaking techniques and lesser-known grape varieties including Albariño, Tempranillo, Pinot Blanc, Garnacha Rosado, and late-harvest Gewürztraminer. The wines are handcrafted from single vineyard blocks, treating them individually and keeping them separate throughout the winemaking process.
A full list of California varietals, including their flagship Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, can be sampled in one of the many tasting flights available. If you want to try just one or two wines, they also have a $2-per-taste selection.
