Bella Luna Winery Description

Bella Luna Winery’s tasting room welcomes you to enjoy their finely crafted wines, and also provides you with some insight into the passion and past of the winery’s founders. Some would say that Bella Luna Winery started 38 years ago in the hearts and minds of its founders, Kevin Healey and Sherman Smoot.  Kevin had just returned from honorably serving his country in Vietnam and Sherman training as a Navy fighter pilot preparing to go to Vietnam

The two were best friends growing up and pursued different career paths after the war, but found each other again in Paso Robles and realized that they had both developed a passion for wine built upon 35 years of both making and consuming wines.  Today this passion is exemplified at Bella Luna Winery.

Gazing around the tasting room, you notice artistically hung fighter planes that just might start having gun wars amidst the adjacent wine barrels at any moment.  The planes are a joy to admire as you work your way through the red wine focused tasted menu, or if you prefer, you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the view while you sip their wines.

Bella Luna Winery focuses on small lot production of wines with unique character.  Kevin and Sherman concentrate on Italian varietals, their blends and single varietal production and Kevin and Sherman provide all of the labor and skills necessary to craft the winery’s annual vintage.  All of the fruit utilized to produce their wines is dry farmed and harvested by hand.

Great wines, also very friendly staff. The Tempranillo was one of my favorites. Very military friendly, even has a wine called "Fighter Pilot Red."

This winery is definitely worth a trip off the beaten path. Bella Luna has the best Tempranillo that I have had in years, enjoy!
