Borra Vineyards Description
Borra Vineyards traces its Lodi roots back three generations, with family winemaking going back even farther to the small town of Carrú, Italy. Stephen Borra has been making wine since 1967 in the tradition of his Italian grandparents - rich, robust wines using fruit cultivated from their own vineyards.
Their two Lodi vineyards provide Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Viognier and Barbera grapes that the winery uses for their big luscious wines. A specialty of Borra Vineyards is their proprietary blended “Fusion” wines. The red is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with a little Zinfandel and Merlot added, while the white is made of Roussanne, Chardonnay, Viognier and a little Marsanne. The Carrú Vineyard Ranch is the eldest of the two vineyards, and has been in the family for over 100 years.
Just outside the 1930-era tasting room (the former ranch vinegar shed) is a great example of a 100+ year-old grapevine, which now provides more shade than fruit. Inside the cement-floor tasting room is a nice selection of wine accessories displayed in a cozy atmosphere where they pour their handmade estate wines. Picnic tables are provided on their lawn and under the grape arbor.
