Cass Winery Description

Between Paso Robles and Creston, off a little-used county road, this scenic stop has beautiful architecture, quiet serenity, scrumptious food and quality Rhone-style estate wines.

The winery building is surrounded by giant oaks and well tended vineyards with picnic tables and horse shoe pits. The modern hacienda-style barn with patio houses a café- style tasting room and winery. The large room has a full size commercial kitchen where you might find one of the owners dishing up gourmet fair for an event or just for their regular visitors.  A gourmet lunch is available daily 12 to 4pm.

The diamond-plate tasting bar contrasts nicely with the glass top bistro type tables and the colorful original artwork displayed on the walls. Pottery, cookbooks, glassware, gourmet food items and logo clothes share the space along with a piano and wine displays. For kids who are not outside playing in one of the picnic areas there is a basket of used corks that they can creatively attach to a “cork-wall” and crayons for artistic endeavors. A glass wall looks into the barrel storage room, which is also open for frequent music or wine gatherings. A separate library room is available for smaller gatherings.

The wines are all made from 100 percent estate grown grapes with the emphasis on Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, Cabernet Sauvignon, and some Rhone blends. The vineyard is located in a low elevation valley east of Paso Robles. It is a cool spot in the middle of a warm region. The Rhone varieties on the Cass Estate are genetically pure clones, having gone through 8 years of rigorous testing by an agency of the French Government (ENTAV) prior to being approved for sale in California.

Love this place!

I am a huge fan of Cass. The grounds are gorgeous, the people are so nice and they always remember you and greet you with a hug. The food is awesome, they have the best viognier I've ever tasted...this place is heaven!

Good wines, especially the Cab Franc and Cab Sav. They also had a a barrel aged Roussanne/Marsanne blend that I enjoyed. We went during the harvest festival and our server had been brought in for the day, so the knowledge wasn't there. Plan to visit around lunch. They have good food.

Off the beaten path but well worth the drive. A great destination for lunch. A full service cafe for wine and food pairings (open 7 days a week!) with a fun and talented chef. Great staff that are enthusiastic about their jobs. Love the wine. Cabernet Franc and Rockin' One especially noteworthy. Very relaxed but vibrant atmosphere. Don't rush through a tasting here, come prepared to relax and savor everything. Dog friendly which we love! Great wines, food, people, and atmosphere. Go there!

Lovely Estate

I was impressed that they only produce estate grown wines. That is what makes tasting trips worthwhile to me. Nice that they think of kids with the cork wall, so if you are toting along the grandkids, this would be a great stop. Their wines are not atop my favorites list but they are in the top 20. They also offer some delicious snacks and food to spice up your tasting. It's nice since food is an afterthought at most wineries even though all day tasting trips require more than just crackers!
