Surrounded by local flowers and seven varietals of grape vines, the tasting room and garden patio is located just off the historic Sonoma Plaza. Plans call for a brand new hospitality center at Castle's 16 acre Los Carneros estate, but for now, the intimate tasting room provides ample opportunity for tasting, as well as for special events.
The wines are made in a European style using small-batch, open-top fermentation, hand punch-downs 4 to 5 times each day, and traditional basket bladder presses. The wines are not over extracted or over oaked, and are considered very fruit driven, which makes for great food pairings or enjoyed on their own.
The tasting lineup consists of eight wines (which change daily), with a focus on their award winning Pinot Noir and Rhone varietals. The winery sources its grapes from growers in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast, Carneros, and Mendocino County. The winery's small production (3,500 cases) gives it a intimate and familiar feel. They provide a revolving set of food and wine demonstrations that keep locals and visitors alike returning to this cozy little spot.
