Ceago Vinegarden is a destination style winery experience with the natural beauty of vineyards, lavender fields, olive orchards, gardens all on three quarters of a mile of lakefront property. The winery buildings are built in a hacienda style with courtyards, fountains, walkways and patios. Ceago is derived from a Pomo Indian word (spoken "Shee-ye-ho") that meant "grass-seed valley".
Jim Fetzer, a leader in the Green movement pioneering organic and biodynamic winegrowing in the United States, has transformed this property into an agricultural resort-style development that promotes a holistic farming environment of plant and animal life.
The 163-acre estate has vineyards, palm & cypress trees, olive groves, fruit trees, walnuts, figs, lavender fields, vegetable & herb gardens, agaves, and a first class tasting room and destination resort. In addition Ceago Vinegarden offers a seasonal open-air café, a conference room, and an extra-long Pier where boats & seaplanes can dock.
The estate grown wines are made from organic and biodynamic grapes. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Merlot, Muscat, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon make up their tasting list along with a late Harvest Semillon. Specialized tours are available by appointment.
Keeping with Ceago’s holistic & Biodynamic principles, sheep & chickens roam the land, along with wild turkeys, raccoons, birds, butterflies, and native bees. Ceago Vinegarden’s property on Clear Lake has received Biodynamic certification by Demeter USA.
