Crystal Basin Cellars Description

Located in the berg of Camino, just off Highway 50 north of Placerville, you can find the funky but friendly home of CBC, producing Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone varietals. Starting as a small winemaking cooperative, the operation has grown and changed over the years and now includes five partners producing their wines in a former apple storage warehouse.

The small tasting room is simple, comfortable, friendly and convenient. The tasting room manager, better known as the “Wine Diva,” will entertain and enthrall you with stories, knowledge and wit.

The goal at CBC is to source high-quality Sierra foothill fruit, then use a minimalist handmade winemaking style to produce flavorful, fruit-forward wines. The whites include Chardonnay, Viognier, Chenin Blanc and a sweet Muscat. The reds, though, get all the attention, with their Mourvedre, Syrah, Grenache, Barbera, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and their late-harvest Syrah. A port is also available, made from the classic Portuguese varieties of Touriga, Tinta Madeira and Sauzao.

Funky but interesting stop
Wino, Berkeley
Kind of off the beaten track for sure! This place is a bit funky and we almost didn't stop when we found the place, but we were glad we did. The small tasting room had some local folks there and we had some great conversations as we sampled the wines. The reds are always what I go for but I started, and was pleased with the whites. Then the reds came on well with their lusty Barbera and the Port. We got a good case discount and will look for their wines in the Bay Area.
