Dark Star Cellars Description

Father, mother, son & daughter are the “Stars” and staff who do it all at Dark Star Cellars. The mood here is relaxed, casual, funky  and fun.

From farming to winemaking, bottling to pouring you can always find a member (or two or three) on the premises working to make a impression on the wine and the wine tasting visitor. Just of Highway 46 along Anderson Road is the winery operation (shared with their son’s Brian Benson Cellars) and tasting room.  It's an eclectic  affair of wine, gifts, barrels and art.

The large barn-like space has bright “Tuscan Orange” colored walls, wood beams and a homemade triangular shaped tasting bar with inlaid glass. The bar was made by the father and son team from a 30 year old redwood fermentation tank. The same triangular shape is on their label and encompasses the dark blue star. The room has riddling racks to display wines, logo clothing, large format bottles, kids tables, old family photos, and unique gift items.
The family quest is to make “stellar” small lots of ultra-premium hand crafted red wines. Their flagship wine is their “Ricordati” Bordeaux blend to compliment their Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Zinfandel Port. The small vineyard is planted to Zinfandel and they source additional grapes from nearby vineyards.

Super duper- run don't walk--

Husband and wife are smart and very attentive. This man is gifted- just taste the RICORDATI and you'll see what I'm talking about. Attached to his rock star son's small room- Brian Benson. This is a must see stop.

Perfect Blend....
SommelierTim, Simi Valley
Norm and Susan treat everyone that walks through the door the same.... Susan is pleasant and nice, Norm is grouchy and grumpy. But their wines are one of the best kept secrets in the Paso Robles area. Their Ricordati is a blend that I keep coming back for. I served it at my wedding and I am a wine club member here.

Nice place

I enjoyed the Zin Port and the Ricordati. The tasting room had a very unique bar that gives you an idea of hoe much heart and soul this family has put into the winery. You can also purchase some miscellaneous gifts to go with your wine here. It's not in the top few of my favorites but I appreciate the unique pieces of this winery...that's why I go tasting is to experience the different places.
