Denner Vineyards Description

Ron and Marilyn Denner have created a wonderful destination to enjoy handcrafted Rhone style wines at their strikingly dramatic facility on the west side of Paso Robles. They've exercised painstaking attention to quality at every level including the vineyard layout and management, production equipment, winemaking, architecture, tasting room design, landscaping and staffing.

The ultra-modern gravity-flow winery was completed in time for the 2005 harvest when son Brian Denner, returned from making wine in Chile to become the winemaker. Brian brought 10 years of experience, a degree in Enology, and a passion for the industry to help him make the family wines.

The vineyard has rocky calcareous soils, close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and access to the cooling ocean breezes of the “Templeton Gap”. The vineyard was planted in 1999 with twenty-five different small blocks. The layout and design were based upon the specific terroir and microclimates of each hillside exposure. Rootstocks and clones were matched to each block. Grapes grown include, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, Roussanne, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Zinfandel.

The Denners are dedicated to sustainable farming practices. They keep chemical fertilizers and herbicides to a minimum, use no pesticides and they have established a permanent cover crop.

The tasting room is a bright and attractive space with a curved tasting bar, tall ceilings, and windows into the winery operation. The property has a lovely patio, outdoor fireplace, decks and a dramatic private room for club members.

Really nice wines
bbarnett, Newbury Park
This is a first class operation. The down side is the small production quantity means they only have 4 wines available for sale. Several other producers use these facilities and most of the grapes are sold to other vintners, what's left is great wine produced by an up and coming wine maker. Take the pick of the crop, use sound prodution methods and you end up with really nice wine

Beautiful Grounds, Very Nice Wine
DigitalEye, Santa Barbara
Denner boasts probably the nicest grounds and architecture of any winery south of Napa. Multi-level, gravity flow, acres and acres of vines, a true testament to what a lot of money can do when applied properly. The wines here are definitely deeper and fuller than many of the other "new world" wineries in Paso. A lot of Denner wines will need to age for a while and may not be drinking in their prime for 5 years or more. Again, Denner wines aren't cheap, they are good however so you do get the quality you pay for but they may not be the best value in the region.

Dirt in every bottle
davis1020, Mission Viejo
This winery in extraordinarily beautiful; however, every red selection in incredibly tannic. The heretic that is their "Dirt Worshipper" leaves you with the taste of... well dirt in your mouth. Bring your toothbrush!

Contempo Tasting
Eagle12, Schaumburg
This is one contemporary tasting room. There was a bit of construction going on when we visited but no problem. This tasting room is very chic. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, we enjoyed the wines that were offered settling on the Mourvedre. If I found myself out this way with some extra time I would visit Denner again.

Can't get better than Denner!
James, Santa Monica
This was a great find off Vineyard Drive behind some big metal gates. The place is ultra cool as the building sort of fits in to the hillside. Still under some construction when we were there, but the tasting room and winery is complete and worth a visit. The Rhone's dominate and are very good. The Ditch Digger is one of the best red blends I have every had. Won't be disappointed here.
