Dutch Henry Winery Description
Established in 1992, Dutch Henry Winery is a small family-owned and operated winery located on the original Silverado Trail in Calistoga. The specialty here is artisan Bordeaux varietals in extremely limited release.
Noted for signature hillside Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, the wines are carefully handcrafted by owner-winemaker Scott Chafen. Wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Argos (Bordeaux Blend), Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. The family has been growing grapes in the region for 20 years on the southwestern-facing slopes of the Vaca Mountain Range. Comprised of two vineyards situated at elevations of 800 and 1,200 feet, Chafen Vineyards is planted to a total of 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in a variety of clones.
The winery’s barn-like structure is adjacent to park-like grounds, with mature oaks providing shade over a half-dozen picnic tables. The barrel room doubles as a very simple tasting room. Nothing is fancy except the wine in this very laid-back place.
Wines produced include Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux blend, Pinot Noir, Carneros Chardonnay, Estate Syrah, Zinfandel and a Rose. Wines are available only at the winery and on-line. |

 "Terrier Station" & Nice Picnicexpat.j, Tasting flight was $15 which will be waived with purchase of one bottle, and consisted of very nice six samples. My favorite was 2005 "Terrier Station" Estate Cabernet! Since I'm used to the wineries in the South Bay, I thought the pricing was pretty high ($24-$58). This winery has a wonderful picnic area with many picnic tables, some in the sun & some in the shade, and they will let you borrow their wine glasses. I loved it!!

Shabby Chicemyann, Lakeport Don't be fooled by the country setting in the midst of Napa Valley. With wine caves, Bocce Ball, adorable winery pups and picnic areas, this should be a stop for everyone visiting the Silverado Trail!

Rough Character and Rough WineTara, Savoy This is the opposite of the glitzy Napa tasting room; the tasting is done back in the barrel room. This plays on the character of Dutch Henry, an early prospector. The men working the tasting room are grizzled cowboys. They're very knowledgeable and helpful. If you want to take home some wines that your friends haven't had, this is the place to go, because their wines are only available from the winery. We bought several of the Dutch Henry Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Estate.
