Edna Valley Vineyard Description

In 1974 the Paragon Vineyard was planted in the heart of Edna Valley, representing the first major investment in growing premium wine grape varieties in quantity in this cool growing region. The winery was built six years later, and Edna Valley’s reputation soon flourished. As part of Diageo Wines, Edna Valley Vineyards is a leading winery in the region, with a dramatic hospitality facility.

As you enter the winery property the vineyards dominate your view. Outside the tasting center is a informative demonstration vineyard with 14 rows of vines, each row displaying either a different type of grape variety or trellis design. (Look for the nearby pamphlet explaining the details.)

Entering through the tall glass doors to the tasting room you are welcomed by the gift shop’s numerous displays of extensive wine-related merchandise, including picnic baskets, aprons, gourmet food items, pottery, pepper grinders, logo clothing, cloth napkins, and an extensive offering of books on wine and food, all intermingled with baskets of wines.  The tasting bar is set up against a wall of glass windows that give a dramatic panoramic view of the Paragon Vineyard and the volcanic peaks that dominate Edna Valley. It is wonderful view and a great place to sample their wines. There is a private hospitality room in back with an attached gourmet kitchen that is frequently used for food and wine seminars, weddings and community meetings.

Outside the back door of the tasting room is an expansive lawn with a dozen tables, complete with comfortable chairs and umbrellas. Friday night "Wine Downs" and outdoor movie nights are among the regular events here.

Edna Valley Vineyard produces estate-grown Chardonnay, and has recently expanded its winery operation to accommodate the increase in its production of red wines. The winery makes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Muscat Canelli, and a Ruby Port.

A New Wine Style Series
WineHound, Arroyo Grande
Muriel at Edna Valley provided a great tasting, introducing us to their new Winemaker Series Pinot Noir. This gives wine buyers a great mid range value over Estate and below Reserve. Looking forward to more varietals with this brand!

Great view
kirkdicanio, simi valley
A lovely tasting room with an abundance of gifts to buy, a fantastic view overlooking the vineyards, with an ok selection of wine. I did like the sauvignon blanc but when I got home, I found it in the store for $5 cheaper! It all added up to the tasting room being a lot better than the wine.

A Good One
Lori Rose, Oxnard
Syrah and Cab is my favorite so I started with those. Nice, smooth and good flavor. I'm not a wine aficianado but these were good.

What a view!
martytopp, Atlanta
I can't comment too much on the wine since we only tried one. See, we arrived right at closing time (it was a big day!), so rather than turning us away, they gave us each one selection, then wrapped it up. My choice was good, nothing special. For that reason I wish I had had more time to taste some of the others I'm now reading about! What left the best impression on me was the view. WOW! They took considerable effort to make sure all visitors were met with sweeping views of what seems to be endless vines. It does not disappoint!

Unexpected Best Stop
wine4all, Santa Barbara
I was very happy and surprised that this beautiful tasting room and view also held amazing and mostly affordable wines. The staff was also great and had as many suggestions and pieces of info we needed. We joined the club and can't wait to get back.

Best Stop for Wine
wineislife, Sonoma
All fours seem like it is the best wine I have tasted. All in all this is the best for the best. They have the wines you can find in the stores and quite a few you can't. I recommend those. They are quite fantastic and unexpected. Enjoy the attendents and your time there. It is unique!

Very nice ambiance
Kens, Pasadena
Nice view and enjoyed the wine vines in front of the tasting room and reading about the various methods for wine. The wine is disappointing all the money is spent on the tasting room and not on the wine. Its a large winery so their wines are done in bulk, its the same quality as any mega vineyard, you can find their wine for a lot less in the local grocery store.

Best Vineyard Views & Wine
Rocko,
This is a great stop in the Edna Valley. Absolutely stunning views from the tasting room's picture windows. The staff is great as our the wines. The Chardonnay is a good value and good drinking. Fine gift shop. We noticed a number of locals there tasting and shopping. It looks like they have fun events as well.

Impressive for SLO-town
Napan7, Napa
This is one of few central coast vineyards that really has ambiance. Not to sound snobbish, but I'm really not into this whole idea that farmy, tiny vineyards are automatically boutique; sure, some are but many that try to pretend that's their niche are not. Aside from that, the wines are are above average and I bought I think, 3 cases to take home with me. Their Chardonnay is far and away the best wine they offer. It's won a number of awards and for good reason.

Wonderful Wine Experience
Wine Explorer, San Luis Obispo
Edna Valley is equipped with a very large, bright tasting room, which is full of souvenirs, wine, and a nice staff. An educational "Demonstration Vineyard" allows visitors to see first hand how different vines are designed and take shape. The Cabernet Sauvignon was divine. A must see amongst the many surrounding wineries!
