Edna Valley Vineyard Description

In 1974 the Paragon Vineyard was planted in the heart of Edna Valley, representing the first major investment in growing premium wine grape varieties in quantity in this cool growing region. The winery was built six years later, and Edna Valley’s reputation soon flourished. As part of Diageo Wines, Edna Valley Vineyards is a leading winery in the region, with a dramatic hospitality facility.

As you enter the winery property the vineyards dominate your view. Outside the tasting center is a informative demonstration vineyard with 14 rows of vines, each row displaying either a different type of grape variety or trellis design. (Look for the nearby pamphlet explaining the details.)

Entering through the tall glass doors to the tasting room you are welcomed by the gift shop’s numerous displays of extensive wine-related merchandise, including picnic baskets, aprons, gourmet food items, pottery, pepper grinders, logo clothing, cloth napkins, and an extensive offering of books on wine and food, all intermingled with baskets of wines.

The tasting bar is set up against a wall of glass windows that give a dramatic panoramic view of the Paragon Vineyard and the volcanic peaks that dominate Edna Valley. It is wonderful view and a great place to sample their wines. There is a private hospitality room in back with an attached gourmet kitchen that is frequently used for food and wine seminars, weddings and community meetings.

Outside the back door of the tasting room is an expansive lawn with a dozen tables, complete with comfortable chairs and umbrellas. Friday night "Wine Downs" and outdoor movie nights are among the regular events here.

Edna Valley Vineyard produces estate-grown Chardonnay, and has recently expanded its winery operation to accommodate the increase in its production of red wines. The winery makes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Muscat Canelli, and a Ruby Port.

This is a great stop in the Edna Valley. Absolutely stunning views from the tasting room's picture windows. The staff is great as our the wines. The Chardonnay is a good value and good drinking. Fine gift shop. We noticed a number of locals there tasting and shopping. It looks like they have fun events as well.

Impressive for SLO-town

This is one of few central coast vineyards that really has ambiance. Not to sound snobbish, but I'm really not into this whole idea that farmy, tiny vineyards are automatically boutique; sure, some are but many that try to pretend that's their niche are not. Aside from that, the wines are are above average and I bought I think, 3 cases to take home with me. Their Chardonnay is far and away the best wine they offer. It's won a number of awards and for good reason.

Wonderful Wine Experience

Edna Valley is equipped with a very large, bright tasting room, which is full of souvenirs, wine, and a nice staff. An educational "Demonstration Vineyard" allows visitors to see first hand how different vines are designed and take shape. The Cabernet Sauvignon was divine. A must see amongst the many surrounding wineries!
