Firestone Vineyard Description
Heading north on Foxen Canyon Road, through horse ranches and oak-studded hillsides, you come to the Firestone Estate. Featuring eight individual vineyards planted in 1972 with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Merlot, and Syrah grapes, the vineyard was the first in the area and was the ambitious project of Leonard Firestone, son of Firestone Tire entrepreneur Harvey Firestone.
In 1975 grandson Brooks Firestone built the dramatically modern winery and tasting room designed by Richard Keith & Associates (who also designed Robert Mondavi, Heitz, and Souverain wineries). Brooks later ventured successfully into politics. The winery and vineyard was purchased by the Foley Wine Group in August 2007.
A combination of wood and tan brick materials make up the exterior of the unique winery design. Inside the large tasting room, dark wood furnishings and tile floors with Western-themed chandeliers make for a warm and rustic yet up-to-date interior. Against the far windows, looking out over the picturesque valley floor, is a long copper-topped tasting bar that complements the room’s additional tasting “island” set in the center of the room.
An extensive array of gourmet food items (including Firestone Fudge Sauce), logo clothing and wine accessories are for sale. Look on the walls for the pictures of the Firestone family with past presidents, members of royalty and heads of state. Outside there are large spaces for events, and additional picnic areas tucked against the hillside. Regularly scheduled tours showcase the winery and vineyard.

Worth the visitansmom, San diego Pleasant drive to the tasting room, comfortable and large the tasting room and outdoor seating area make this experience great. The servers were pleasant and helpful and chatty. I had the reserve tasting with reds only and found them all worthwhile with my favorite the merlot.

Firestone - Spring 2011attackdog100, Situated in the middle of rolling hills and horse farms, this winery is both modern and rustic. We were immediately greeted by a young man who invited us to take the tour in a few minutes. It was quite informative, ending with a look into the "history room" and a glimpse of pictures of the Firestone family and founder and other important figures of the time.
The tasting room was rustic with an almost Spanish feel and the views out of the window were gorgeous. They had several wines to taste - including a Cabernet that was outstanding. Not many wineries grow this varietal here. They had a lot of olive oils and other gourmet food items. I bought a package of 6 sampler bottles for $22. Since Firestone wines are widely available, I did not purchase any wine but will look into the Cabernet when I get home. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and beautiful tasting room. Definitely recommend this stop.

SY Local!TheAmericanIdol, Santa Cruz After a lovely drive through gorgeous fields and oak trees you arrive at Firestone Winery. Perfectly situated, Firestone offers a lovely array of wines. Tastings and tours are both available throughout the day. I have been to Firestone on several occasions. Their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep rich wine with a berry aroma and finishes smoothly. The winery is on an expansive estate and is gorgeous. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable and is a must-stop for any wine-drinker or connoisseur.
