Firestone Vineyard (Paso Robles) Description

In 2007, Firestone Winery opened its long-awaited Paso Robles winemaking and tasting-room facility, with a specific focus on small lots of Paso Robles-grown Bordeaux varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Managed by third-generation vintner Andrew Firestone, the winery features a tasting room, barrel cellar, demonstration vineyard, and an enclosed patio with lawns and gardens for picnicking.

The new venture in Paso Robles is only part of the evolution the Firestone family has experienced over the years. “Tire Titan” Harvey Firestone’s other great-grandson, Adam Firestone, opened Firestone-Walker brewery with his brother-in-law in 1996, moving the operation to Paso Robles in 2001. In 2007, the flagship Firestone Winery in Santa Ynez was sold to neighboring Santa Barbara vintner Bill Foley.

The Firestone tasting experience begins as you pass the outdoor rock fountain and enter the generous hospitality area, which features an island bar and a balcony looking into the fermentation and barrel rooms. There are displays of artwork and wine accessories scattered throughout the room. The high, timbered ceilings and stained concrete floors create a warm, enticing environment.

Fruit is sourced from their large Santa Ynez Valley vineyards, as well as from the Paso Robles Appellation. In addition to their Bordeaux varietals, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Syrah are also produced.

Lovely New Vineyard
Orion, Santa Barbara
January, 2008

Firestone Vineyards was a pleasant visit, it became obvious to me upon entering the tasting room that everything was newly established, opening had occurred early in 2007. This vineyard did not have the classic feeling that I appreciate when tasting wines, I love to feel that the vineyard has been aging along with the wines. Although despite this Firestone was an enjoyable venture and I would not discourage anyone traveling through Paso Robles to not stop here and taste a bit of their selection. I recommend the Chardonnay myself.
