Frangipani Estate Winery Description

Take the drive out to De Portola Road past olive trees and horse ranches to find the Frangipani Winery and Vineyard. Producing only estate-grown wines, this winery makes over a dozen limited-production wines, specializing in Bordeaux varietals.

The winery is set in the rolling hills on the north side of the Temecula Valley, overlooking their vineyards and two Bocce Ball courts. The entrance to the charming Spanish-villa-style winery is unadorned. There is no gift shop, but their two winery dogs provide plenty of entertainment. Dozens of barrels share the space with a long tasting counter and a few wine displays.

The young winery is already known for their Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Late-Harvest Zinfandel. Planted over 30 years ago, the Zinfandel vines are some of the original “foundation vines” planted in the valley. Don Frangipani, the owner and winemaker, is usually on-site and is happy to talk about his vineyards and his wines.

A disappointing reception on weekends
rozakraft, Temecula
The winery is up a steep driveway off of De Portola. The elevated location would be a good site for a picnic. Unfortunately, the winery does not honor coupons on weekends which is a pity since my husband is not a wine drinker and with so many wineries to choose from, the coupon help you not break the bank in trying different wineries. As a result, our party of six passed on trying the wines and picnicked down the road where we could use our coupons, buy two bottles of wine, and had a great time enjoying a new winery. One of our parties even decided to become a wine member. We were all really put off by the staff member at Frangipane who sarcastically said "see ya" when we told her we were hoping to use our coupon. It was interesting to note that their were maybe three couples in the winery. When we went down the road the winery was full of happy customers and picnickers. We may never go back.

BEST KEPT SECRET TO SHARE
DEBORAH, TEMECULA
THEY HAVE A GREAT SPARKLING WINE, AND ARE ALWAYS RUNNING OUT. THE REDS ARE MY NEXT FAVORITE, WHICH IS DON'S TRUE CALLING. THE CAB FRANC, YUMMY. IT IS OFF THE BEATEN PATH, AND NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I VISIT, I ALWAYS FLY BY THE DRIVEWAY. BEAUTIFUL VIEW FROM THE TASTING BAR, OR BUY A BOTTLE TO TAKE TO THE COVERED PATIO AND ENJOY THE VIEW OR SUNSET. DON'T BE DISCOURAGED BY THE PORTO-POTS. THEY ARE THE MOST ADVANCED IN TOWN, FLUSHING, PAPER AND SOAP, SINK WITH WATER, ANS BOYS STAY OUT OF THE GIRLS PLEASE.

Great winery specializing in Bordeaux wines. Typical tasting room but had a Spanish-style theme. Really enjoyed the bocce ball courts!
