Halter Ranch Description

Halter Ranch is located approximately 11 miles west of Paso Robles on scenic Adelaida Road. The idyllic, pastoral property dates to the 1880s, when it was part of a 3,000-acre ranch owned by Paso Robles pioneer Edwin Smith. The renovated Victorian Farm house is right along the road with the tasting room set behind it within a beautiful garden. Around the garden mature oak trees provide shade over the patios and lawns. An outdoor fireplace makes for a lovely spot for lingering, tasting and relaxing.

The interior of the tasting room has a rich wood tasting counter, beamed ceilings and doors leading to an intimate patio. In additoinal to wine the tasting room sells logo apparel, pottery, locally produced olive oils and deli items.

The extensive 900 acre property will host a new, state-of-the-art winery to be completed for the 2009 harvest. The new facility will utilize more of the estate grapes which currently are sold to a number of other producers.

The estate vineyard is planted to 17 different grape varieties in 42 blocks. Bordeaux grapes make up 60% of the fruit with the rest mostly Rhone varieties and Zinfandel. The vines are planted on steep, south-facing slopes reaching 1800 feet in elevation and boasting soils rich in limestone. High-density plantings, multiple clones and rootstocks, and low yields produce quality fruit. Biodynamic and organic farming methods are used . Their rich luscious Cabernet Sauvignon is their flagship wine.

Tours of the property are available by appointment.

Feel free to explore!
Angel,

Halter Ranch has a beautifully restored old home and many old barns and outbuildings. There is a lot of history associated with this property, including a runway thru the vineyard and an oak tree reported to be about 600 years old. If you have your dog with you this is a great place to stop and let them run around! Go explore! You'll be fascinated by the rich history of this property, and the wines are very tasty too!

So glad we stopped
Kendra, Bakersfield

We were on our way to Justin and ended up stopping at this very cool winery out in the country. The tasting room is not in the old ranch house but behind it within their gardens. Their wines were fantastic, especially their Cabernet. The place has the feel of an old ranch but instead of cattle the hillsides have an extensive vineyard. Great people and it turned out to be our best stop of the day.
