Harmony Wynelands Description

In South Africa vineyards are known as “Wynlands” and after a visit, the owners added a letter and created their Wynelands name. To find the big blue “barn,” look for the large wine barrels along the road and be ready to be greeted with art, music and wine.

Located in the middle of old-vine vineyards, this is an oasis of country tranquility. There is a spacious rose garden and patio, with its entry marked by mature redwood trees. The patios and gardens meander throughout the property and are the setting for numerous events during the year. There is a long veranda along the edge of the winery providing shade as well as a view of the gardens and fountains.

Inside, the backside of knotty pine paneling is used for all the walls of the tasting room, which doubles as a music studio. With its thirty-foot beamed ceilings, the room is spacious and almost cathedral-like. At center stage is a full-size 2/11 Robert Morton pipe organ that is placed in the structure for which it was built. The organ is originally from the old San Francisco Castro Theatre, and its extensive baffling and pipes are a marvel to see and hear. The owner, Bob Hartzell, can usually be found at the multi-keyboarded instrument during most operating hours. The winery holds regular concerts and events here, including silent movie nights.

Harmony Wyneland’s Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet are made from Lodi fruit, with their flagship Zinfandel produced from their 30-year-old Estate Zinfandel vines. Their Zinfandel is made with in an old-world, fruit-forward style using Hungarian oak aging. (They add a little Petite Sirah to enhance the spiciness and aging potential of the Zinfandel grapes.) The Alicante Bouschet, which is a cross of Petit Bouschet and Grenache, is made in the style of a Spanish table wine. The Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes come from Monterey County vineyards. Harmony also offers two sparkling wines on their menu.

This was our first stop of our Lodi Winery Tours & I chose this place because of the beautiful picnic area. I bought the chardonnay & Ernie the Old Vine Zinfandel...Thanks Linda!

The tasting room wasn't too bad. But service was horrible! There wasn't a lot of information presented about their wine and the Blondie behind counter seemed bothered that she had to pour wine for us. I Do Not Recommend this place, especially if you want to relax and enjoy the wine tasting experience. Smiles and a great deal of friendliness could do some good for this winery.

My Harmony Wynelands experience
WineGoddess, Stockton
Our experience at this winery was definitely disappointing. When we arrived at 12:30 PM, it was apparent that they were setting up for an event, which we learned was a wedding due to begin at 4:00 PM. At first we thought they were closed, but after standing in the empty tasting room for several minutes, we were finally told that they were open. The person pouring our wines was not friendly and she seemed agitated that she had to stop whatever she was doing and attend to us. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience and we wish we had chosen another winery.

A very pretty spot with lovely gardens and event spaces. Inside is a huge pipe organ that with all its baffals and tubes takes over the place, especially when it is being played. The wines we thought were well made. A nice country casual atmosphere.
