Kaleidos is a family owned and operated winery and vineyard situated in the Templeton Gap of the Santa Lucia Mountains in Paso Robles. Established in 2004, the owner Steve Martell set out to produce the most exquisite handcrafted wines. He has carefully planted all the vines on his property, one acre at a time, and while he waits for his grapes to mature, he is producing wine from finely selected fruit from other wineries in the area.
Martell's focus is Rhone varietals and his attention to detail and philosophy of hands-on craftsmanship has procured a collection of rich, well-balanced reds. Martell is a purist when it comes to wine-making and insists on planting his acres himself so he can execute the exact sustainable standards desired.
The Kaleidos label is named for the shop Steve Martell's mother had when he was a child, where she sold kaleidoscopes and other works of art. The name resonates with him personally and also relates directly to his wines. As the light and colors of a kaleidoscope come together to create unique images, the grape vines combine the elements of soil and sunlight to develop distinctive fruit characteristics. Kaleidos shares its tasting room with Changala Winery. They welcome families and dogs and even have a picnic area to relax in and enjoy the view of the rolling hills of Paso Robles.
