Kalyra Winery Description
One mile off Highway 254, beneath American and Australian flags flying high overhead, is the American version of an Aboriginal Outback beach shack otherwise known as Kalyra Winery. “A wild and pleasant place” is the translation, and it is fitting of this unique and lively winery and tasting room.
Dominating the tin-covered structure is a bright yellow surfboard set over the tasting bar, with Aboriginal Australian masks and beads nearby. Gifts and food treats are available, and a long covered deck overlooks the vineyards for tasting and general carousing. Huge California pepper trees provide shade on the green lawn.
The owner is a longtime Santa Ynez winemaker who came by way of Adelaide, Australia, where he still visits and makes wine. Some of these wines are available to taste along with Kalyra’s extensive California offerings. Grapes come from all over the state, with an emphasis on Santa Barbara County.
Wines produced include Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Nebbiolo, Merlot Rose, Sangiovese Rose, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Bordeaux blends. A generous selection of dessert wines includes Orange Muscat, Port, and late-harvest Rieslings.

Relaxing environment, good winecawinelover, Valencia We went to their tasting room located in SB and enjoyed the general atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff. We weren't a huge fan of their white wines but loved their Sangiovese and the Gewürztraminer dessert wine in which the sweetness didn't overpower the light vanilla and apricot finish.

One of our favorites!!murphede, Fernley Kalyra may not be for everybody but we love it. We have been back 3 or 4 times and every time we love it! The building is nothing special but it has a very laid-back surf shop feeling inside with an extensive gift shop. The "college kids" doing the pouring have memorized what to tell people about their wines but they know nothing more. Kalyra has a good mix of white and red from sweet to dry. My husband and I love the Semillion (sweet white), Cashmere (fruity red) and Orange Muscat (dessert). Their MC2 and Merlot were pretty nice reds as well. As previously stated we have been back a few times and will continue going back! If you are in the SB area, Kalyra is a place you must check out!

Declininghlwade, Tucson I've been to this tasting room several times over the years and noticed during our last visit that both the service and the wine seem to be declining. The staff pouring the wine were college kids who clearly didn't care or know about the wine. All of their wines are so-so, with the dessert wines being the only ones really worth purchasing.

EHHansmom, San Diego Not a friendly staff group, just pour wine and move on. The black muscat was OK I used it for cook fruit in. Fun accessories in the shop.

Kalyra WineryDivine Wine, Yosemite This place may be worthwhile if you enjoy an Aussie style beach shack. I found it lacking elegance and an appealing ambiance. The desert wine was okay, I tried the Orange Muscat. Just not my style.
