Langtry Estate & Vineyards Description

The picturesque Langtry Estate & Vineyards consists of 21,349 acres that straddles both Lake and Napa Counties. It is a vast property encompassing some thirty-five square miles of mountains, meadows, creeks, lakes and vineyards.

The winery itself was originally built in 1981 to resemble the old Langtry barn still standing across from the Gebhard Hunting Lodge two miles south of the winery. The property is a rustic retreat with great hospitality options for visitors. Those with an appetite and a taste for adventure can opt for the Tephra Vineyard Lunch Tour, offered Tuesday through Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. This tour travels to the high elevation Tephra Ridge Vineyard which boasts a spectacular view of Guenoc Valley. Please call for reservations. There are also lovely picnic grounds near the winery with a view of their lake.

The winery and vineyard has the distinction of having a appellation all to themselves. The picturesque Guenoc Valley is just north of the Napa Valley and is one of California's leading producers of Petite Sirah.

Langtry's primary source of Petite Sirah is the Serpentine Meadow Vineyard at the winery estate in Guenoc Valley. Small traces of magnesium found in the soils have a profound affect on the Langtry Petite Sirah, as it limits vine vigor and crop levels, toning down the aggressive flavors in the wine. The wines are fruit forward, soft and round with bright, berry flavors.

The winery also is known for their crisp Sauvignon Blanc, lovely Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux blend, and a Petite Sirah Port.

I am more of a mellow guy and when I went here the tasting room was sort of crowded. No worries for the staff though because they were still very attentive to anything I needed. I really enjoyed the Petite Sirah and I am still wishing I bought more of it. The winery property is really big and expansive. Great stop.
