Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards Description

Mr. Lucas and Mr. Lewellen own close to 400 acres of grapes and produce a dizzying array of French and Italian-style wines. Walking the streets of the charming European-style village of Solvang, you will pass candy and ice cream stores, specialty gift stores, restaurants, and tourist shops, and in the mix you will find a number of storefront tasting rooms.

Lucas & Lewellen offers a lively tasting bar along with an extensive gift shop crammed with wine and gift items. The mood is relaxed, with bar stools and even a table for kids to entertain themselves while parents learn about the wines. Outside is a small covered porch with flowers and a grape arbor overhead, plus a wine barrel fashioned into a bubbling fountain.

The winery is located in Buellton, with two tasting rooms in the Copenhagen-style tourist town of Solvang. Under the Lucas & Lewellen name, fine Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Port are produced. Under the Madolina label a number of notable Italian varietal wines are made. The vineyards are located in Los Alamos, Santa Maria, and Santa Ynez Valley, growing dozens of grape varieties. A number of notable Italian-style varietals are offered under the new Toccata Label.

Great Place in Downtown Solvang

L & L consistently makes good wines. They have a cute storefront in Solvang and the only drawback is that it can get crowded on weekends. I like their Pinot Noirs. Their "sister" winery, Mandolina, down the street also has nice wines.

Again another great tasting room in Solvang. Staff was friendly, nice extras to purchase, and my favorite was 'cote del sol cab 2005'

Henry,
Great wine, good fun, friendly people and a place to sit down when you taste wine! What else can you ask for? Our favs were the viognier, merlot and chard.

Good Ol' Solvang

I can't but help loving this tasting room. Anyways, this cute tasting room is a nice size, while the other tasting room (Mandolina, the other label for Lucas and Lewellen which is separated by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory) is rather smaller and very cozy. I did quite like the Viognier when I was there. It has a honey sweet aroma and was full bodied and rich on the palate. It had an almost grapefruit and spice punch as well. So be sure to stop into both of these tasting rooms and to RM Chocolate Factory. It is heaven in the middle of a street block!
