McKeon Phillips Winery Description

McKeon-Phillips Winery brings to the central coast of California the very best of European and early American style of apprenticeship to the making of its fine wines.  Accomplished winemaker, chef and artist, the late Ardison Phillips created a memorable tasting experience in the heart of the Santa Maria Township.

Ardison Phillips was the vision and work behind the label. He was an internationally recognized artist with artwork hanging in major museums throughout the world. He had been a successful chef and restaurateur and award winning winemaker.

As you enter the tasting room from rather pedestrian surroundings you are transformed into the exotic lair of wine, art and food. The eclectic tasting room has tall ceilings and richly decorated walls with dramatic artwork and floors covered with oriental rugs. There are heavy  dark-wood tables each displaying the winery’s offerings. Four or five chairs at each table make for a civilized and comfortable wine tasting experience.

The tasting room is adjacent to the winery and the full kitchen facility.

McKeon Phillips produces Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, white and red blends, ports and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon.

NOTE: Ardison Phillips recently passed away in June 2011. Bailey Phillips, his son passed away in the Spring of 2009 and was responsible for many of the outstanding wines made at McKeon - Phillips and will be remembered for his charm and charisma, his hard work at the winery, his rich fun loving personality and as a loving father and son.  The video interview seen here was shot a few weeks prior to his passing. His "Bailey’s Private Reserve" is the winery's flagship wine.

Worth seeking out
Rocko, Santa Barbara
This is an out of the way place to taste wine but really worth a the stop. The experience here includes great walls of brightly painted and dramatic art from the owner. The sit down tasting is a nice treat and we loved their Cab Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and the port to finish it all off. Will come back.
