Melville Vineyards Description
As you turn off Highway 246 a shared driveway leads you to the mustard-colored Mediterranean-style home of Melville Vineyards. The beautiful landscape comprised of lavender, lush green lawns, poplar, oak and sycamore trees surrounds the impressive tasting room and its oval veranda.
Once inside, visitors are welcomed by tile floors, oriental rugs and an attractive fireplace. The tasting bar has comfortable wooden bar stools, while the veranda has cushioned wrought-iron tables and chairs. The adjacent vineyard, located within the cool Santa Rita Hills Appellation, is planted in tightly spaced rows
(8’ by 3’), allowing for over 1,800 vines per acre. This method of stressing the vines limits the amount of grapes produced per vine, but encourages heightened flavor intensity.
The vineyard has many clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah planted, and ferments them in small lots to maintain their distinctive characteristics. This laborious process allows for small-lot bottling of unique wines that are sold mainly through the tasting room. The estate wines are distributed both nationally and internationally. Wines produced include Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir and Syrah.

Not impressedsimplywine, Brea December, 2007 Melville has a wonderful atmosphere, very serene outdoors and the tasting room is small but very stylish. I was not overly impressed with the wine that was being poured mostly due to the fact that it was not ready to drink. If we had known about their young wine prior to paying the tasting fee, we would have walked away and visited other wineries on our list. In addition, there was no room for us at the tasting bar due to a large tour group (Large tour + small tasting bar = sub-par experience). I am not advising others not to visit as these situations will not always be the case, however I won't be back anytime soon.

Worth a LookDivine Wine, Burbank September, 2007 Very nice grounds, impeccable to be precise. The Syrah and Viognier are advertised for their definitive characteristics and I found this to be accurate. Do visit if you have a chance.
