Meyer Family Cellars Description

Mendocino County Syrah, Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, and California Old Vine Zinfandel Port are not only the flagship wines, but the complete line of wines available at this small family-owned winery located in the Yorkland Highlands of the Anderson Valley.

Producers of socker red wines (this is Boonville slang for big and bold), the winery and tasting room is an updated barn design with an extensive trellis system, gardens, picnic areas and a bocce ball court. Inside are wooden floors and a tasting counter, a small fireplace and a window looking into the barrel room.

Established in 1987 by the founders of famed Silver Oak Winery and the Meyer family, their goal was to create a wine that drew upon their extensive experience in the Napa and Alexander Valleys. They source grapes from numerous Mendocino County vineyards for their Syrah, seeking the wild berry and cherry characteristics typical of Mendocino fruit.

Their elegant Cabernet Sauvignon comes from their own small vineyard in the revered Oakville District of Napa Valley. Their port is produced using the traditional solara method, where several vintages are blended and the wine averages eight years of age when it is released. Most of the fruit is old-vine Zinfandel grapes from vineyards located well south and east in Lodi.

Overall Impressions
Loved the Port
Luke, San Francisco
I truly enjoyed my time spent on the Meyer Family Vineyard. It was a pleasant and warm environment that was inviting and open to people of all ages, as well as families. I was able to meet and converse with several different types of people, all drawn to Meyer for there love of wine and country feel. I myself am a man who loves Port and the first thing I did when I stepped was purchase a bottle of Old Vine Zinfandel Port and enjoyed a game of bocce ball. I left that day with several more bottles, so I guess you could say I loved the Port.
