Milano Family Winery Description
A former hop kiln built in 1947 now houses the winemaking efforts of winemaker Deanna Starr and her husband Ted, a computer software designer. The redwood barn is right off the highway just south of Hopland; it warmly welcomes visitors to its cozy tasting room, inviting them to sample their tasty red and white wines, late-harvest Zinfandel and their jammy ports.
Milano produces small quantities of handcrafted, limited bottlings of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Carignane, Charbono, Valdiguie and port. The grapes are sourced from nearby Mendocino County Vineyards. The winery is CCOF organically certified, with some of the wines produced without the use of additives. The winery is small enough to “pamper each individual barrel,” according to Deanna Starr.
Past the wine-barrel fountain and up a flight of stairs, you enter the Milano tasting room and gift shop. The dark-wood interior and beamed ceiling create a warm and attractive space. There are lots of unique gift items and wine accessories.
Outside is a menagerie of farm animals, including chickens, llamas, goats,
pot-bellied pigs, and curly-headed geese.

Wow - Drive past Napa and Sonoma and go to Hoplandmikesq, Marshfield We loved this winery. We loved Hopland! It is a very small winery run by a couple who made their fortune writing wine software. It is the first winery you run into as you enter Hopland. You go down a driveway and the cozy tasting room is on the second floor of a small two story building with a little waterfall out front which was caked in ice the morning we were there.
The wines are wonderful, especially the Zinfandels. I really liked the Tawny Port, it is more like true Porto than the typical California port.
And then, if this was not enough, we were there for Mendocino’s Wine and Crab festival and there was the barrel tasting with one of the owners. We had a great time.

Love The Animalsmargedoor5, Santa Cruz My oh my I really liked this winery. It had this old fashioned feel because of the way it was built up on the side of the hill and the wine was excellent. I received great service by the people there who were not pushy sales people and were genuinely considerate. Cool critters to see outside. It really gave this winery a special feel.
