Morovino Description

Wine, food, family and friends is the philosophy at the newest tasting room addition in Avila Beach, near San Luis Obispo. With the popular beach just a block away the mood here is relaxed, the venue is hip, and the wine is devine. Hosts David and Andrea Bradford are happy to share their love and knowledge of their limited production Italian styled wines.

The small operation produces up to nine wines including their flagship blend of Merlot and Zinfandel called Tango. Also produced is a crisp Pinot Grigio, a bold Barbera, a Chianti style Sangiovese, a full bodied Syrah, and a couple of sweet wines including their Cosa Dolce, a blend of Alicante and Semillon grapes.

The wines are produced at a nearby custom crush facility and made from Santa Barbara County fruit. The winemaking style is to craft the wines to pair with food. The wines are approachable and fruit forward.

The Morovino tasting room offers recipes and wine pairing suggestions. The tasting room has comfortable bar stools as well as a living room style lounging area. Also check out their gift shop which showcases Botanical Body Care products, candles and wine accessories.

You cannot beat an owner pouring their own wine!

The interesting selection of Italian wines offered by Morovino is worth a quick trip into Avila Beach, even if you decide not to stay for the beautiful vistas and warm microclimate. David and Andrea really know their wine and the food pairing ideas come directly from Andrea's cooking experience. It is a fun way to taste wine. Their offerings are very different from many Central Coast tasting rooms and we were fortunate to taste both their '98 and '99 Barbera's. A quick note to mention their support for the Susan G. Komen foundation and recent event at their place. They plan to do more of these and clearly enjoy building relationships with their visitors and wine club members.

We found the CWA site helpful as it directed us to Morovino in the little beach town of Avila. The tasting room is just a block away from the sand and across the street from the golf course. The Merlot Zin blend is tasty as well as the Barbera but the sweet Cosa Dolce is to die for on a warm summer day! Enjoy.

Really Fun!!

I live in a nearby town and stumbled upon the Morovino tasting room with my husband while in Avila Beach for lunch. We weren't ready to leave our little beach town so we stopped in at the Morovino tasting bar. It was very comfortable with couches and a beautiful bay window that looked out over the mountains. We bellied up to the bar and started tasting. So fun! David and Andrea are so knowledgeable about their wines, which are very unique Italian varietals and blends. They have amazing Barbera, which I love and is hard to find at a wine shop, let alone in a tasting room. They actually have two different vintages that they pour -- So good! Their Pinot Grigio is crisp and refreshing and I could have sat there and drank it all day. We ended up buying a few bottles and took the party home!! Thanks Morovino!! We'll be back soon!!

The Bradfords are a great pair and they sure know their wine. Love the area and their tasting room is so welcoming. My favorite was the Cosa Dulce my husband loved the Zinfindal (its a manly wine). We visit on a weekley bases since they are really conveniently located in Avila Beach. See you next week we had a blast in your Grand opening weekend.

I feel that there is special appeal of Morovino for me, that after I finished a bottle with my wife we could stroll down to the seaside and watch the sun set. I had a wonderful conversation with David Bradford and he was more than willing to help guide my taste buds to the preferred wine. It was in fact their Cosa Dolce, as a fan of Ports I enjoy the dessert wine. I left with bottles to take home and share with friends.
