Morovino Description

Wine, food, family and friends is the philosophy at Morovino in Avila Beach, near San Luis Obispo. With the popular beach just a block away the mood here is relaxed, the venue is hip, and the wine is divine. Hosts David and Andrea Bradford are happy to share their love and knowledge of their limited production Italian styled wines.

Morovino produces up to nine wines including their flagship blend called Tango. The current vintage is an Gold Medal Award Winning combination of Syrah and Petite Sirah. Pinot Grigio is a Morovino signature wine and they currently offer a Gold Medal Award Winning dry version as well as a slightly fruitier vintage. A Rose of Pinot Grigio is also in process.

With their focus on Italian varietals, it’s no surprise to see a smooth, luscious Barbera and a Sangiovese blend in the lineup. Morovino also showcases a silky Syrah, an amazing Cabernet and a couple of sweet wines including their Cosa Dolce, a Chenin Blanc based blend.

The wines are produced at a nearby co-op facility and made from Santa Barbara County fruit. The winemaking style is to craft wines that are smooth, easy on the palate and very food friendly. All their wines are very approachable.

The Morovino tasting room offers recipes and wine pairing suggestions. The tasting room has comfortable bar stools as well as a living room style lounging area. There is a nice built in fireplace for cool afternoons and a patio for those wonderful Summer days in Avila Beach. Once you have your wine from Morovino there are good dinning choices just steps away.

AVILA BEACH, CA—Morovino is one of the seven family owned and operated wine venues on the Avila Wine Trail--which winds from the shimmering sea through the coastal vineyards. With four downtown tasting rooms and 3 tasting rooms in the nearby Avila Valley and South San Luis Obispo area, the Avila Wine Trail captures the essence of Central Coast wine making. In addition to award-winning wineries, Avila Beach offers and idyllic climate, sunny beach, a variety of water activities, spas and restaurants--truly something for everyone.

Great wines. Wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. My favorite was the Sangiovese. I look forward to see what they have to offer next time I'm there.

All I can say is YUM!

You can't beat a winery where the owners run the tasting room. Very knowledgable and just plain nice! The tasting room has local art on the walls and is very warm. The wines are all good. I'm more of a red drinker but love the Pinot grigios. The new 2009 Barbera is their best ever. Can't decide whether I like that or the new 2009 Dolcetto better. They are both so good. Highly recommend!!

A Central Coast Favorite
WineLady, Dublin
Imagine my panic when I stopped by Morovino in Avila Beach and found the building empty! Thank heavens they were still in town - they just moved 1 block down the street. The new tasting room is very cute and still featurs nice art. But, of course, it's the wine I come for. I had a second moment of panic when I was told that my favorite Pinot Grigio ever had sold out. Never fear - Andrea poured her new Pinot Grigio Rose. And, now I have a new favorite. Light, crisp, sippable and really, really pretty to look at. I was impressed that they remembered me from my last visit and what I liked. No wonder Morovino is one of my Central Coast Favorites.

Great Atmosphere, Great Wine!
GrigioFan, walnut creek
I came to Morovino based on the CA Winery Advisor recommendation, to try their two Pinot Grigios (my fave wine). I left with a split case AND several bottles of the amazing reds. The Syrah was creamy, root-beer-y and delicious. And the Tango blend recently won a gold medal at the Orange County Fair. I happened to catch Mrs. Vino on an event day and her food and wine pairings really opened my eyes to what food and wine can be. You cannot come to San Luis without tasting at Morovino!

Great Place
jerfer1001, San Jose
When they moved this tasting room to Avila was a great find. It is nice to have a Italian style wine in the area. We enjoy all there wines. Their new Syrah is great. One of the best things about Morovino is David and Adrea they make you feel at home and love their wines and visiting with their guests. If you are in Avila Beach or visiting the central coast I would make a stop at Morovino.

Great Italian Wine
JenniferK, Orange
If you like Italian wine, this is the winery for you. Wonderful Pinot Grigio. Red wines taste like Chianti from Italy. We bought a bottle of Pinot Grigio (which is unlike us. In our opinion, Pinot Grigio's generally taste water downed but this one was remarkable. We prefer a full bodied red so would recommend Saucelito Winery for red wine.

You cannot beat an owner pouring their own wine!
WineHound, San Luis Obispo
The interesting selection of Italian wines offered by Morovino is worth a quick trip into Avila Beach, even if you decide not to stay for the beautiful vistas and warm microclimate. David and Andrea really know their wine and the food pairing ideas come directly from Andrea's cooking experience. It is a fun way to taste wine. Their offerings are very different from many Central Coast tasting rooms and we were fortunate to taste both their '98 and '99 Barbera's. A quick note to mention their support for the Susan G. Komen foundation and recent event at their place. They plan to do more of these and clearly enjoy building relationships with their visitors and wine club members.

Love the wine, love the beach
Kendra, Bakersfield
We found the CWA site helpful as it directed us to Morovino in the little beach town of Avila. The tasting room is just a block away from the sand and across the street from the golf course. The Merlot Zin blend is tasty as well as the Barbera but the sweet Cosa Dolce is to die for on a warm summer day! Enjoy.

Really Fun!!
maryann, Atascadero
I live in a nearby town and stumbled upon the Morovino tasting room with my husband while in Avila Beach for lunch. We weren't ready to leave our little beach town so we stopped in at the Morovino tasting bar. It was very comfortable with couches and a beautiful bay window that looked out over the mountains. We bellied up to the bar and started tasting. So fun! David and Andrea are so knowledgeable about their wines, which are very unique Italian varietals and blends. They have amazing Barbera, which I love and is hard to find at a wine shop, let alone in a tasting room. They actually have two different vintages that they pour -- So good! Their Pinot Grigio is crisp and refreshing and I could have sat there and drank it all day. We ended up buying a few bottles and took the party home!! Thanks Morovino!! We'll be back soon!!

The Bradfords are a great pair and they sure know their wine. Love the area and their tasting room is so welcoming. My favorite was the Cosa Dulce my husband loved the Zinfindal (its a manly wine). We visit on a weekley bases since they are really conveniently located in Avila Beach. See you next week we had a blast in your Grand opening weekend.

Beach & Wine

I feel that there is special appeal of Morovino for me, that after I finished a bottle with my wife we could stroll down to the seaside and watch the sun set. I had a wonderful conversation with David Bradford and he was more than willing to help guide my taste buds to the preferred wine. It was in fact their Cosa Dolce, as a fan of Ports I enjoy the dessert wine. I left with bottles to take home and share with friends.
