Oreana Winery Description

Once an abandoned tire shop this downtown space is now a cooperative winery venture of two winemakers producing ultra small lots of handcrafted wines. Located in the winery zone, two blocks north of the beach and two blocks south of the ritzy downtown core, Oreana Winery shares the neighborhood with more established winery operations.

The inside of the place is a mix of winemaking and retail space. During harvest the place is beehive of activity that visitors can be up close and personal with. Impromptu tours can be easily accommodated. The spacious shop has lots of gift items and wine accessories along with stacks of wine for sale.

Oreana is the vision of winemaker Christian Garvin who produces up to 4000 cases annually making Syrah, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Verdelho, Pinto Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, red table wine and a bit of the bubbly.

In the summertime there is a regular party here with live music, food and beer (!) available. In the winter months you can enjoy a glass of Syrah while watching a Hollywood film when they transform their barrel room to a movie theatre.

Don't bother
cawinelover,
My husband and I are originally from Sonoma County and have enjoyed wine tasting in Napa, Russian River and Sonoma (also where we were married). We decided to celebrate our anniversary in Santa Barbara this year and experience wine tasting just blocks from the beach where we enjoyed wine tasting at a number of the wineries (Cottonwood and Kalyra were amazing!) We walked into Oreana and after seated next to others that were tasting for about 10 minutes, the manager finally told us that they were closed for the day. We were disappointed but of course realized closing time was at 6 pm and she said to come back the next day. When we came back at 5:45 the following day to what looked like a frat party with drunk people walking into us and a woman to my right leaning on me and bumping into me with her purse. A different blonde lady who worked there came up and said they were closed for tasting but we could buy a glass or bottle. We mentioned how we were told the previous day to come back before six and the woman replied "I don't make the rules!..." we were floored by the unprofessionalism and said that we would go. She simply replied "Sure...." without looking at us in a disconnected condesending tone. As if there drunken winery was appealing. Don't waste your time or money on this winery as there are plenty of wineries nearby with a professional knowledgable staff that puts the customer first.

Funnest Winery in Town
TheAmericanIdol, Santa Barbara
This is by far one of the FUNNEST wineries/tasting room in Santa Barbara. I attended their "Red and White" party/tasting extravaganza in Dec of 06. They had live music and fun events. The staff is very hip to say the least. Coupled with excellent wines this was one of my favorite tasting experiences ever. They offer a mean Pinot Noir whose flavor explodes on the palate with rich fruit flavors. If you are in the SB area be sure to stop off here, you wont regret it. See their website for event information as well!!
