One of the newest downtown Paso Robles tasting room is owned by two generations of winemakers with over four decades of experience. The father-and-son winemaking team of Chuck Ortman and Matt Ortman have deep roots into California agriculture and winemaking. The focus is on handmade artisan wines from the central coast.
Chuck Ortman brings extensive experience and artistry to the winemaking program with over 40 years of experience with such important wine names as Heitz Cellars and Spring Mountain. Mr. Ortman was one of the first winemakers to explore barrel fermentation of Chardonnay. He founded Meridian Vineyards in Paso Robles and recently started the new brand with his son Matt producing limited production Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir (from the Santa Rita Hills), Sangiovese and of course Chardonnay. Together, they advance the acclaimed “Ortman style,” which emphasizes richness, elegance and cuisine compatibility. Fruit is sourced from local Paso Robles and Santa Barbara County vineyards.
The tasting room is located near the heart of downtown Paso Robles and incorporates numerous green building practices, including toxin-free clay plasters; reclaimed woods; compact fluorescent light bulbs; Lumicor panels made of partially recycled material; and recycled glass tiles. The tasting room is managed by Lisa Ortman who also handles sales and marketing.
