Pear Valley Vineyards Description
Pear Valley is a small estate winery owned by Tom and Kathleen Mass. They started their first vineyard in 1999 growing premium wine grapes in the Paso Robles appellation using sustainable farming practices.
They started making their own wine in 2005. They produce rich Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and a terrific red blend called Distraction. In the Spring of 2008 they broke ground on a new 14,000 winery and 5,000 square foot tasting room.
Crop sizes are limited to about 2 tons per acre to showcase the power and intensity of the grapes. The wines are aged 2 years on a combination of new, one year old and neutral American, French and Hungarian Oak Barrels. The wines then spend another year in the bottle before being released.

Mehpvcnova, Chicago This place has a lot of potential but doesn't really deliver. First of all, the pours were very, very stingy. That's a big minus in my book. Second, the tasting room was all stone with high ceilings -- it felt like we were drinking in church. Also, the staff was a little short with us, even though we were the only customers in the place. On the positive side, the grounds and outdoor seating areas are beautiful and great for a picnic. And the wines are very reasonably priced. Not sure I'd make a return trip.

Pleasantly surprisedLoupyLouie, Livermore This is a new winery, and we only stopped by because another winery recommended it. But I'm very glad we did. The winery is beautiful! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. But the biggest surprise was the wine. This place makes some great wine, and right now many of them are a great value. But the values are surely not going to last as more people find this winery.

Great wines in their inaugural year!wineprospector, Los Angeles Definitely seek out this new winery on the East Side of Paso. They have constructed a beautiful facility and are already holding events. I was surprised by the breadth and overall quality of the wine, given their young age. The Reserve tasting was great and they are pouring 2 or 3 vintages of Syrah and Cabernet, allowing for some fun side by side tasting.
