Per Bacco Cellars Description

South of San Luis Obispo and just off the US 101 is the Filliponi Ranch and the home of Per Bacco Cellars. Set up against the hillside just past the old diary building, now barrel room, is the new winery and tasting room pouring handcrafted Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, a dry Rose, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel

The small working winery gives visitors an up close view of the wine making process with stainless steel fermentors, filtering racks and winery equipment close at hand. The combination of a 3rd generation California vineyard manager and a successful Italian restaurateur are the ingredients that make up Per Bacco Cellars (the name is an Italian exclamation of wonder and delight).

The country setting comes with a Bocce court and horseshoe pit along with trails leading to a number of rustic picnic areas overlooking the western Edna Valley. Coming soon is their new tasting room in the old dairy building next to the winery.

Discovered San Luis!
Ryan SF, San Francisco
Wow! They say Per Bacco means "wow" on a sign when you first walk in. It was our first time and we will be back. I recommend you go for the stand-up stand-out wines they produce. The Pinot Noir is a step above any I have had in a long time and it is true of their Syrah's. The woman pouring also was incredible and sent us to more great wineries. No complaints here.

We found this place from the Advisor website and thought it a good stop in the area. You have to hunt it down a little but the place is worth the stop. It is tucked into a hillside within view of US101 but feels like you are out in the country. Anyway we liked the reds the best especially the Cab and Zin. Good people.

It is true the tasting room is in the wine cellar. It was amazing to have the opportunity to have so much one on one experience. They were very knowledgable and the best hospitality I have had in a long time. I will be sure to be back, the wine is truly amazing. A must for their reds, all of them!

I purchased the pinot grigio and think I will try it with fresh salmon. A small unimpressive tasting area in the cellar, but the hiking trails make up for it. A good game of horseshoes was started. A fun time.

The 2003 Late Harvest Zinfandel is to die for. I'm glad I made the trip all the way down to this winery. The ambiance is so-so. Not worth visiting just to 'experience' the winery. But it is nicer than many and as I said, I'd make the trip just for that Late Harvest Zinfandel. One of my favorites on this central coast tasting trip.
