Pianetta Winery Description
Taste some wine and be entertained at this trendy storefront tasting room in downtown Paso Robles. Pianetta offers visitors a warm friendly environment and cool estate grown wines.
The classy tasting room is just a block form the “City Park” and dominated by a large granite topped rectangular tasting Island in the middle of the spacious room. Antique wooden floors and pendant lighting add to the room’s pleasant ambiance. Old black & white photographs of Paso Robles at the turn of the century are mounted on the walls. Wines have limited distribution and presently only available locally and in the tasting room.
The owners of the newest tasting room in Paso Robles may have the longest agricultural experience off all their neighbors. Five generations of Pianetta’s have experienced life in rural California starting with the current owner’s great, grandfather Valente Pianetta who came to California in 1907. Later generations farmed around the Bay area and then in 1968 started growing grapes in Lodi. Fast forward to 1996 when the family purchased a 95 acre ranch in San Miguel and started planting a vineyard. Today the dry farmed ranch grows 54 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 acres of Syrah, and 5 acres of Syrah’s close cousin Shiraz.
After a number of years selling the grapes to premium wineries the family decided to venture out and make their own wine. The grapes received into thewinery come from their terraced hillside slopes, and are picked by hand. The grapes are then de-stemmed and lightly crushed and fermented. After the wine is drained and pressed, it is aged in predominantly French oak barrels for 18 months, and then bottled by hand.

Best Reds in Pasodocfloors, Mission Viejo The tasting room brings the vineyard to the tasting room--good pictures show the close family roots. Tasting is all about the wine in your glass. Pianetta makes sure that you are tasting what is in the bottle--when necessary, they will swirl the next wine and dump it to give you the true taste of the next wine. The staff is outstanding--very pleasant, knowledgeable, and down-right friendly and most of all--passionate about wine. These are outstanding wines. The best value bar none. But this wine by the case, you will not be disappointed.

Family historygolflover, Atascadero Like a couple others I've already rated, I would rather drive out through the vines to get to this place but they do at least produce wine from estate grown grapes. I liked a Syrah the best and I'd definitely visit them if they ever opened a tasting room out on their estate! Like the others, probably won't be back to the downtown tasting areas on another trip...maybe just to buy...
