Plumpjack Winery Description
PlumpJack Winery in the Oakville district of Napa Valley specializes in estate grown Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot. San Francisco politician Gavin Newsom, the principal behind the PlumpJack Group, established the winery in 1997. Grapes are primarily sourced from the winery's estate vineyard, originally founded in 1881, nestled in the nape of the Vaca Mountain range on the eastern side of the Napa Valley.
A panoramic view of the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountains enhances the mischief and wit of the Leavitt-Weaver-designed PlumpJack Winery tasting room and its surrounding 50 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. Brightly colored walls and spacious patios greet visitors to the very stylish tasting room.
The inaugural release of their 1995 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon created quite a stir among the wine community, and prompted Robert Parker, Jr. to assign a rating of 95+ points. The 1997 Reserve bottling came with a screw cap closure-the first luxury producer to do so- and turned the wine industry upside down. The winery currently produces Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah.
The PlumpJack Group has over a dozen business ventures in the Bay area including trendy restaurants, nightclubs, wine shops, inns and other businesses. The management is deeply committed to social and global responsibility, delights in challenging traditional business methods, passionately believes that business can be fun, and demands an exceptional experience for each customer.

AWFUL Bartenders, Great sceneryMandy L, Orange County The set up of this vinyard was my favorite. It is tucked away, very private and has gorgeous and peaceful outdoor seating. The service is much like a bar. You have to go up to get your tastings and they poor very small amount. Not a true "flight." The bartender was also extremely rude to the men in our group. He acted like he did not care to serve us and like we were an imposition the three times we had to walk to the bar to get our next tasting. Maybe it was a bad day for him? Bummer the service was so terrible, or else this would have been one of my favorites. Wine was great quality too!

Great ambianceJDO, South Bay We visited on a Sunday around 3pm. It was semi crowded but accomodating. The grounds of the winery are very relaxed and 'joker' like - everything is big and emphasized. It was gorgeous and quaint.

Another hit for Plumpjack GroupSBStacey, Santa Barbara Plumpjack Winery does the Plumpjack Group justice with its enthusiastic staff, hip style, and wonderful wines. The staff definitely went out of their way to provide a memorable experience, and the wines were definitely worth it. Their Estate Cab was delicious, as well as their Merlot. Not a huge fan of their Chard's personally, but everything else was great. The tasting room has gift items for sale, but not in an overly touristy manner. The outdoor setting and ranch style facility draws your attention outward and invites you to enjoy some of their wine at one of the various outdoor tables. This is what laid-back Napa should all be about.
