Rios-Lovell Estate Winery Description

Up on a small knoll sit the lush gardens, red-roofed gazebos, expansive lawns, and large winery building of Rios-Lovell. Finnish, Swiss, and Canadian flags adorn the rock-faced entry. Inside are two large rooms brimming with wine and gift displays. Lots of glassware, wine gift bags, wine accessories, and gourmet foods - including some interesting wine-flavored cream cheese dips - are available. There are plans to offer a deli service on-site to complement their event center. Murals adorn the four walls in the main room, while white oak and stone invite you into the tasting room.

The tasting room features an ample bar and a colorful staff to serve you. The winery owns and farms some 60 acres of grapes, growing 13 different varieties. They produce all their wine from their estate grapes, and are best known for their robust reds, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, a Bordeaux blend, Zinfandel, Barbera, Sangiovese, and a Merlot Port. They also produce a Chardonnay and a sparkling wine.

Fantastic wine and staff

I visited this winery for the first time this past weekend. It was a gem in my book. My wife and I go wine tasting frequently with our friends and are always looking for something new and different. We discovered Rios-Lovell as we were driving by and it was the second winery we visited that day. When we entered the tasting room we were immediately greeted by the owner, the winemaker and two other employees. They had a very impressive list of wines and ports. The tasting was $5 each and you get to taste 8 wines, which is a lot from our experience. We fell in love with their 04 Cab especially. It has an International Gold medal and you can definitely tell. In fact, many of their wines have some very prestigious medal yet they are very humble about it. This s not one of those snobby winery's, which we really appreciated. We tasted with the owner himself and he went into detail about each wine and told us all about the wine making process. I didn't try the ports, but my wife loves them and commented that theirs were the best in the area so far. There are three other wineries in Livermore that we love and visit regularly and this one gave them a run for their money. We will definitely be going back next time we are in Livermore.
