Robert Mondavi Winery Description

Oakville is home to one of the most influential wineries in the Napa Valley. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era, Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. Its mission-style architecture, with the classic archway and bell tower, greets visitors to its extensive tasting and touring programs. The facility has hourly vineyard and winery tours, as well as specialty tours and tastings seasonally throughout the week, including twilight tours, luncheon tours, art tours and a number of VIP-type programs.

GrapeRadio Interview with Margrit Mondavi

As you enter the grounds of the winery, you pass a statue of Saint Francis of Assisi created by twentieth-century San Francisco artist Beniamino Bufano. The detailed mosaic figure is an elegant and dramatic example of his work. Pass though the archway and head to the left for tour and tasting information. There are a number of tasting room areas, including the “Kalon Tasting Room” for sampling reserve wines.

Stroll under the mission-style portico and enjoy the grounds, including the demonstration vineyard, gardens, and the restaurant, with its retractable roof for dining alfresco. The wines range in price from $16 to hundreds of dollars for reserve wines.

Very rushed and busy. The gift shop was bigger than the tasting room. I felt like I was on the assembly line we didn't get the chance to ask questions, or really savor the wine.

So dissapointed

I have been a member of the wine club for years and have always looked forward to visiting the vineyard every year. This year we were treated like a number. The staff was rude and seemed like they didn't want to be there. We have always bought several cases of the reserve cab and tokalon cab but this year we left without spending a penny. My guess is that the new owners have ruined what was one of the best wineries in the world.
