Robert Sinskey Vineyards Description

The dramatic setting and architecture of Robert Sinskey Vineyards compliments the extensive, gastronomic wine experience available to visitors. The winery offers a choice of tasting, and touring options, including culinary adventures, wine cave tours, and “excessive or gluttonous flights of limited production wines.”

As you head up to the striking rock-walled edifice, you will pass by a field of French Lavender, an extensive lawn and, behind the winery, a head-trained hillside vineyard. Covered walkways lead to a modern courtyard with a fountain and raised beds growing seasonal vegetables.

You enter through glass doors to a tall cathedral like room with stained concrete floors, rock walls and a long elegant tasting counter. There are cook books, cooking gadgets and wine accessories tastefully displayed along the walls. To the rear of the room is a culinary kitchen complete with pizza oven, a full time chef, offering cooking classes, and wine and food events.

The winery’s vision is to make wine with minimal manipulation and create cuisine-oriented wines of “balance, elegance and finesse.” The vineyard employs the use of biodynamic practices using sustainable organic techniques. Like organic farming, biodynamic practices focus of the health of the soil prohibiting the use of chemicals that can harm microorganisms and encouraging vigorous biologic activity. Also there is an emphasis of vineyard work timed with nature's natural rhythms. The result is wines that have a sense of place (terroir) with a great mouth-feel and a bright natural acidity.
Their flagship wine is their Carneros Pinot Noir. Other wines include Pinot Gris, a late harvest Pinot Gris, a Merlot, a red blend, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Rose of Pinot Noir.

Biodynamics at work
KAM, Santa Rosa
As one of Napa Valley's proponents of biodynamic viticulture, the winery and its products shine like no other. The Abraxas is an amazing blend, and their Pinot Gris is phenomenal. The reds are also stellar. A visit to the beautiful tasting room is complete with mini-food pairings that are amazingly wonderful and prepared in house. You can also pick up a copy of a cookbook-the author is the owner's wife. A definite place to visit in the valley.

One of Best Cab Sauvs in Napa
Ochs, Savoy
One of my favorite must-visit wineries in Napa. The tasting room is beautiful. At one end is the kind of kitchen we would all love to have, where the chef prepares foods to pair with the wines. They have recipe cards throughout the tasting room so you can make these foods at home. Their "Gluttonous Flight" cost $20, when we were there, but $15 is refunded with a purchase, and you will definitely want to purchase something. After visiting dozens of tasting rooms, we decided their RSV Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon ($75) was one of the best in Napa, so we returned to buy some more. They have an interesting Alsatian-style blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Gewurtztraminer that you won't find anywhere else, called Abraxas. They also have Pinot Noir, Merlot, dessert wines, and a really good Proprietary Red. But there's is more to Sinskey than the great food and wine. There also use 100% organic grapes and have an incredible organic vegetable garden out front that you can stroll through. They will ship your wine to most states, since you took possession of it in the tasting room.

I agree with this wineries aspiration for balance in their flavors and cuisine. Their use of organic techniques is exciting. An overall beautiful place. Very cooooooool.
