Roblar Winery & Vineyards Description
A new destination winery with expansive wine and culinary offerings is now open in Santa Ynez Valley just off highway 154. Roblar’s focus is on wine, gourmet foods and the culinary arts.
The rambling wood-sided complex has gardens, terraces, lawns, verandas and one of the largest fireplaces this side of Hearst Castle. The architecturally dramatic tasting room has soaring wood beamed ceilings and creates a stunning setting for enjoying their Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. The adjacent 18 acres of vineyards is planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Merlot.
The main facility includes a complete commercial kitchen and cooking school. Cooking classes are taught by guest chefs from around the nation. In addition there are daily educational wine and food pairings, a gourmet food market, vineyard tours and ample picnic grounds. A full lunch menu is available Wednesday through Sunday and features gourmet salads, soup and hot panini sandwiches. Wines are only available at the winery and on their website.

BEWARE OF FINE PRINT IN WINE CLUB MEMBERSHIPjnysmoke, LA STAFF WAS FRIENDLY BUT NOT VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. THE WINERY ITSELF WAS VERY NICE. THE WINE IS NOT WORTH THE COST - AVERAGE AT BEST. CANCEL MEMBERSHIP AT LEAST 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE OR YOU RISK BEING CHARGED FOR THE NEXT SHIPMENT, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS. I CANCELLED 21 DAYS PRIOR TO THE SHIPMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE NEXT MONTH'S SHIPMENT. IT IS SUPPOSEDLY NOTED IN THE FINE PRINT.

Different Style Here, Bit overpricedDigitalEye, Santa Barbara It appears Roblar is trying to capitalize on the trend back to more traditional European wine-making with more subtle and austere wines with higher acidity than this region is used to. Not a bad idea but its hard to entice people out of their comfort zone with $30 Rieslings and $55 Merlots. This is not Alsace or Bordeaux and as an upstart winery I'd say they're overshooting their mark by a fair margin. Nice grounds and an impressive building though, if that's what moves you then you'll like Roblar.

Great ambiance, not great wineprost99, Colorado Springs Beautiful location with great ambiance, but the wines are not very impressive and over priced for what you are getting.
If you have extra time and are in the area I would recommend visiting but more for how nice the tasting room and patio are, and not necessarily for the wine.

Enjoyable experiencemhmh, Santa Monica We had a great time at Roblar. The staff is very friendly and the place is just beautiful! I've never seen a winery quite like this one. Amazing food too---organic and homegrown or locally grown is what they tell me. We were sold and became members on the first visit. In the future, if we do another wine tour we will definitely put Roblar on our list! Thanks!
By the way, we have friends that have recently decided to get married at Roblar in October 2009. I will post a comment after the wedding with our experiences and their food paired with the wine!

Not there yetbawine, Houston Very nice facility and friendly staff very willing to share information about Roblar. However, the prices they are charging are way out of line for the product they are producing. However, their club pricing makes it a bit easier to swallow. We joined their club (as we do with many) to "see how they progress." The club experience has been less that desirable due to a very rude individual making "threats" if I didn't complete my obligation committed to when signing up. I live in Texas, where summers are VERY hot and will cook wine while riding around in the UPS truck, so we request that all clubs hold their April to October shipments and then ship in Oct or Nov, and they all do. I received a voice message from a young man threatening to "turn me in" to the credit bureau because I "my bank wouldn't accept the charges and I failed my obligation. Little did he know the shipments were on hold. VERY BAD CUSTOMER RELATIONS!!! Of course I'll drop my membership after the first year. BEWARE if you plan to join their club.

WineLoveradamjf, San Diego The wines I thougt were not bad - I enjoyed the Semillion and the Cabernet Franc, but the prices were steep I thought for the taste, especially since this is a new winery. The cab franc for $60.00? Come on, I can get one just as good for half.

DissatisfactionMsThang, Pheonix One of my least favorite Southern Californian Wineries. The buildings and tasting room are nice and the layout of the winery is very well done. However, the wine is not that good. It needs a lot of work to say the least. At that, if I had to chose a "favorite" (and I hate to use that word cause I would never buy any of their wine to begin with), I would say the 2004 Syrah is the "best". The Syrah was not horrible but was a bit tart of my taste. The aroma hinted of spice and vanilla. There is a culinary school on the grounds as well which is, from what I've heard, very good. All in all...stay clear of Roblar, at least until they get things in order and can offer some more-than-mediocre wines which is not at the time even possible.
