Description
The famed French Champagne house came to the Anderson Valley to expand their production and find a foothold in the California wine industry. By far the largest winery in the valley, Roederer makes a range of sparkling wines using traditional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit.
The large brown barn-like structure sits on the east side of the Anderson Valley and does its best to blend into the countryside. The tasting room is set up a bit like an elegant living room, with tile floors, pendant lighting and couches. On the walls are artwork and White House menus that feature their wines. The long narrow room has views out to their gardens. No gifts or food are available, and there are no picnic sites.
In addition to their crisp Extra Dry, Brut, Brut Rose, and their special L’Ermitage sparkling wines, they also produce limited amounts of still Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from their extensive vineyards. VIP tastings can be arranged with a reservation.

World Class Champagne in my backyardwino222, Ukiah February, 2008 Roederer was one of the places that seems to have put Anderson Valley on the map. Good thing, because I recently did a wine excursion here and fell in love with the peaceful, serene setting. The winding road entrance to Roederer builds your anticipation, and suddenly you're on top of a crest looking out across the valley. I'm always in a mood for bubbly, so I was right at home in the tasting room. I was pretty inquisitive and was trying to ask as many questions as possible, but the tasting room lady either seemed preoccupied or uninterested, definitely not a trait I look for in a wine educator. However, I did get to take a sneak peak of the bottling facility on the other side of the tasting room doors. The conveyor belt was going nonstop and it's hard to imagine that this one estate produces over 90,000 cases a year. No small feat!
