Along a long, winding, and sometimes one-lane road far out in the Santa Cruz Mountains, you will happen upon the Roudon Smith Winery. The road to the winery is enveloped by glorious redwoods and the journey alone is well worth the trip to the winery.
When you arrive at the Roudon Smith Winery, you just might be greeted by Sahara, the friendly golden retriever who calls the winery home, and who just might be your best friend if you offer her a bit of cheese.
The winery staff is just as friendly and welcoming as Sahara, and offers a wealth of knowledge about the winery and the area while pouring you Roudon Smith wines. The wines include familiar favorites such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, to unusual finds, such as a Merlot Rose that you may well not find at many other places.
In between sips of wine at the small wooden tasting bar, you can enjoy an informal tour of the winery facility, including a close up view of the bottling line, and the stainless steel tanks that play an integral role in the development of the wineries’ Sauvignon Blanc. If you prefer to stay outside, the winery offers a few tables and chairs among the vineyards for you to kick up your feet, sit back and relax, and enjoy all the Roudon Smith Winery has to offer.
