San Marcos Creek Winery Description

Just off the west side of the freeway, a few miles south of San Miguel, sits this pretty as a picture winery set amongst a landscape of vineyards and oak dotted hillsides. The specialty here is Zinfandel.

As you pass through the green gates and drive up the rock walled Pepper Tree lined lane, you come to a small pond and a Tudor style cottage. The timbered and brick stucco structure exudes a clean, tidy and manicured look. Inside is a charming tasting space with a well stocked gift shop, showcasing logo clothing, wine accessories, gourmet oils and mustards, and a cooler with fancy cheeses and meats. The knotty pine tasting bar fits nicely along the length of the room. An outdoor covered patio has comfy chairs, tables, and heaters that look over the vineyards and the not too distant Highway 101.

The winery is known for their red wines, especially their Zinfandels. They specialize in small lots of finely crafted, single vineyard estate grown varietals. They produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, Merlot, Nebbiolo, Viognier, an interesting “White Merlot” and a late harvest Zinfandel. Their vineyard comes down the hillside to the edge of the very attractive winery grounds. A soon to be opened French country bed & breakfast cottage sits out by the pond.

The best stop of the week!
ajw8293, Newport Beach
Our group of 8 visited this winery over the Christmas holidays and we all agreed it was the best stop of the whole trip. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The wines were outstanding - especially the Reserve Cab and the Cuvee - "Epiphany", a Syrah blend. Several of us joined the club and look forward to our shipments!

Wow

We are pleased to say that this winery was absolutely gorgeous. From the moment we entered it to park until the time we left we were in shock about how beautiful this winery is. I really enjoyed the Merlot, and purchased a bottle of it on my way out. The wine here is affordable, and you really get a sense that you are getting great value for your dollar on a purchase.
