Schug Carneros Estate Winery Description
Schug Carneros Estate is a little off the beaten path, but worth the trek up into the western hills of Carneros. Tucked into a hillside is the German style post-and-beam building with wonderful views and ambiance.
This family owned and operated winery has a small winery ambiance, with production hovering around the 45,000 case mark. The grapes come primarily from Schug's estate as well as from respected Carneros properties like Sangiacomo Vineyard and Ricci Vineyard. The winery is most well known for its Pinot Noir and unique Sparkling wines, yet also for Sauvignon Blanc, late harvest Riesling and Chardonnay (grapes that are well suited to Carneros' cool climate).
The tasting room is on the small side, so guests must cozy up to the counter to taste. Guests can even steal a glance into the production room, giving them the feel that they are at a real, working winery. Tasting fees are reasonably priced at $5, which allows between four and five different wines to try, and informal tours of the facility are available by appointment. |

 quaintchappkg, Broomfield Nice and quaint. Out of the way location with a very small tasting room that gives you an idea of what it used to be like in all the Napa-Somoma area about 25-30 years ago. I found the wines good with the Late harvest Riesling to be great.

 Good findpeter01, Fairfield Schug was a great find, after seemingly driving forever down a narrow, barely paved road to the winery. After making our way up the long drive, we found our way to the tiny tasting room and had a couple tastes. Their Pinot was very good from what I remember. And they even had a sparkling Pinot, which I had to buy. There's not much in terms of merchandise, but they did have some cool wine handouts that broke down the average acre of vines into barrels, cases, bottles, etc. It was neat to see the math behind the vineyard production.
