Take a drive up Spring Mountain Road and visit the estate of Schweiger Vineyards. Warm family hospitality, along with premium Bordeaux and Burgundian wines, awaits those who make an appointment and take in the wine-tasting experience at this resort-like out-of-the-way destination.
For those who have visited Schweiger in the past, you should know that a beautiful new tasting room was recently opened with an incredible view of their vineyard!
Turn off Spring Mountain Road and enter the hillside vineyards and winery operation by driving down a narrow paved path. You are greeted by a staff member (usually a member of the family) and begin your tasting experience with a vineyard tour. The facility was recently enlarged, and includes a new fermentation room and a garden terrace. The tasting takes place downstairs in the barrel room and can include sampling directly from the barrels. It is an intimate experience that allows visitors to really get to know the wines and the winery.
Located at an elevation of 2,000 feet (above the fog line), the vineyard features rich volcanic soils and unique microclimates particularly favorable to their 25 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. Yields are low and vary from 1.5 to 3.5 tons per acre. Their vineyards are also planted to five acres of Merlot and four acres of Chardonnay. Their Sauvignon Blanc fruit is sourced from vineyards near Kenwood.
