Stacked Stone Cellars was named after the elaborate stacked stone landscaping adorning the grounds where the wines are made. Winemaker and owner Donald Thiessen has owned the property for 32 years and has been stacking stones since that time.
Stacked Stone Cellars harvested and vinified its first commercial vintage in 2002 producing nearly 1,000 cases. The winery is truly a family operation and you shouldn’t be surprised if you are greeted by Donald himself, or Buck and Bailey, the two winery dogs.
Before entering the tasting room, you will have the opportunity to enjoy Donald’s “Ancient Outdoor Oak Studded Dining Room.” This beautiful outdoor dining area is available to winery visitors to enjoy a picnic or merely to enjoy the view, and is also available for events.
The tasting room is located within the winery’s barrel room, which provides an authentic and intimate feel for your wine tasting experience. Donald or one of his staff will pour you wine at their small wooden tasting bar, and will provide you the opportunity to barrel sample if you made an advance reservation.
The primary focus of Stacked Stone Cellars is Zinfandel, but they also produce other wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Bordeaux blends, Syrah, Petite Syrah, and a fortified Port-style wine. The tasting room often has multiple vintages of certain wines, which provides you the opportunity to do vertical tastings and get an idea of how the wines are evolving over time.
