Sunce Winery Description

Suncé, meaning "sun" in Croatian, is located on Olivet Road west of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County. Suncé Winery with their fun cozy tasting room is located amongst their vineyards and provides a tranquil, romantic, yet down-to-earth atmosphere for visitors.

Suncé Winery is owned by Janae and Frane Franicevic and was initially founded as One World Winery by winemaker Frane Franicevic in 1991. A native of the Croatian island of Hvar, and the small fishing village of Sucuraj, Frane was born into a family with a centuries-old winemaking tradition.

Suncé produces small lots of single-vineyard varietal wines from a number of vineyards of Sonoma County and along the North Coast. Suncé's focus upon s ingle-vineyard designates allows the particular personality and terroir of each vineyard to find its greatest expression. Wines made include Chardonnay, Rodella Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hedin Vineyard, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, the Strycker Cabernet Sauvignon, the St. Olof’s Barbera, and a heady Malbec.

Complimentary wine tasting is offered daily from their small cottage tasting room. Picnic facilities and a bocce ball are available. Tours and seasonal barrel tasting are also available by appointment.

The tasting room was a small but cozy place. It is right behind a house, so a little informal. The staff were very laid back and friendly. My favorite wine was the chardonnay. I do recommend stopping at this tasting room.

Very nice Italian varietals. Ve LOVED the Nebbiolo, but it was $45. Sangiovese was very nice, $25. Purchased the 2006 Zinfandel Sonoma County Reserve. It was $15 after the 50% off special. Small tasting room, and it was crowded. Not a bad experience though.
