Turnbull Wine Cellars Description

In a lovely, quiet spot back from the highway, Turnbull Wine Cellars welcomes visitors to their gardens, courtyards and wood-sided winery operation and tasting room. The covered patios are adorned with overhead vines, picnic tables, fig trees, and a fountain and wishing well.

Inside, dramatic black-and-white photographs adorn the walls. The owner, Patrick O’Dell, has an amazing collection of photography, including the largest Ansel Adams private collection in the world. (Shows are held regularly; call for more information.)

The winery is best known for its range of distinctive, aromatic Bordeaux-style wines. The winery’s six vineyards contribute to its 30,000-case output and are located throughout the Napa Valley, with five being within the Oakville appellation.

The Weitz vineyard, located on Oakville’s volcanic eastern slope, comprises some of Napa’s very finest Cabernet ground. The winery takes the opportunity to blend Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec to create their handmade wines. Their Sauvignon Blanc is also a blend, with 3 percent Viognier and 9 percent Semillon included in the final cuvee. They also produce Merlot, Syrah, and Viognier.

We wandered back through the courtyard and into a wonderful gallery of photographs that also served wine! This is a neat little spot that is easy to miss. Try their Cabernet and enjoy.
