Victor Hugo Winery Description
The first thing that you notice as you arrive at Victor Hugo winery is the strikingly restored 100 year old barn on the property. The renovation of this barn was a labor of love, as is everything that you will find at Victor Hugo Winery.
In 1985, owner and winemaker Victor Hugo Roberts and his wife Leslie purchased a ramshackle property where there winery is now located. Over the years, Victor and Leslie turned this abandoned property into a casual and relaxed family owned and operated winery that they now call home and they welcome you to experience the fruits of their labor.
Victor and Leslie have 78 acres planted on their property including Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Viognier and five Bordeaux reds. Approximately 95 percent of the wine they produce is from estate fruit, with the remainder of the grapes purchased from vineyards contiguous to the property. The estate vineyards are directly adjacent to the winery’s tasting room, and visitors are welcomed to stroll through the vines or relax on the patio in front of the tasting room. See video at VineStories.
Appointments are recommended to taste Victor Hugo’s wines, but Victor made it clear that just because you need an appointment doesn’t mean that they don’t enjoy having wine tasters. With a staff of two, Victor and Leslie just want to make sure that they are available when you arrive. The small tasting bar is located within the winery’s barrel room where you are sure to remain cool and comfortable on a warm summer day.

Learning ExperienceEagle12, Chicago Our first stop on Saturday's Harvest Weekend and Leslie was on hand in the barrel room to give us some hands on lessons in wine. We measured brix in both Cab and Merlot grapes as she taught us how you would measure brix in the vineyard. We tasted 6 wines and 2 barrel tastings. there were appetizers out in the tasting/barrel room. We thought the Zin and Opulence blend were two of the best, that is what a couple of us purchased, but all of the wines are well made. Out of the way, but the winery is in a picturesque location surrounded by vines. Worth the Drive to VH

Love the small family operationAmy, Lake Forest You won't find this experience in Napa! Had a great time learning about and enjoying Victor Hugo's wines, with none other than the owner/winemaker as my guide.
