Villa Creek Cellars Description

Villa Creek winery is owned by Cris and JoAnn Cherry and specialize in blends of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Tempranillo. They produce complex, fruit forward wines that express the climate and terroir of Paso Robles and the vineyards the fruit is sourced from. They produce Grenache, Mourvedre, Rose, Syrah, Tempranillo and a white blend.

The Cherry’s own 70 acre estate on the west side of Paso Robles boasts elevations of 1400-1800 feet, calcareous soils, south facing slopes and ample water. Grape growing conditions don’t get much better. The Cherry’s look forward to planting their first grape vines in 2010.

Villa Creek Cellars recognizes the traditions of the old world while embracing technological advances of the new. Sorting tables are used pre and post destemming to ensure that all wines begin with clean fruit. Whole cluster fermentations add texture and terroir with a nod to tradition. Fermentations are slow and natural. Careful blending insures the creation of complex, well rounded wines.

In addition to the winery the family owns and operates a favorite eating establishment. Villa Creek Resturant is a meeting place for vintens grape growers and wine enthusiasts. Located adjacent to the downtown park and serve local, organically or sustainably farmed products in simple rustic preparations.

Fabulous WIne, Great People
DigitalEye, Santa Barbara
Villa Creek is a bit off the main trail in Paso but the twisty drive is well worth it. The tasting room is basically the barrel shed but that makes it all the easier for your hosts to access barrel samples for the inquisitive and enthusiastic taster. Chris Cherry has made some fantastic Rhone blends from some very well known local vineyards (Denner, James Berry) and his introduction of local Tempranillo has made for extremely interesting and tasty new blends. These wines are not the cheapest in the area (nor the priciest) but they are definitely some of the best.

Great Feel

I remember when I walked in the doors of the tasting room that I had this great feeling. It was just giving off some great vibes with the friendly people willing to help me and answer any and all of my wine questions. I ended up buying a bottle of one of their Grenache blends because it was so good.
